i'm very happy that obama is president, and that most of the local races & initiatives went the way i wanted. some races around the country are too close to call, and i'd love to see darcy burner pull off the upset and al franken come out ahead after the recount, but it's hard to be upset with the overall results ( Read more... )

well, partial senility would be an explanation, but i don't think it fits. you can see at the end of his interview, he alludes to the historical origins of the term so he knows full well what it means. shep smith cut him off before he explained himself further, but since he hadn't backed off over the previous few minutes, that decision is pretty justifiable.

i honestly think nader is so deluded and self-involved (has been for some time, but he finally crosses a line) that he doesn't understand the ramifications of using that phrase. beyond that he was referring to the just-elected first african-american president, it's inexcusable in pretty much any situation. you can see that he thinks because he's using it in a 'corporations vs common man' context, then it's a perfectly acceptable thing to say.

it was the only thing he had left. he was completely marginalized and the only thing that would draw attention to him at this point was a complete implosion.
