I have had a good weekend. A very good weekend. The excitement has dulled down alot over the last few hours (...kinda.... XDXDXD), but the past few days have been great.
If pictures say a thousand words...
... then you, my friend, are about to read my book. XD
Thursday 13th April
It all began on Thursday night, actually. I ended up going to Louise's and hung out with her for quite a long time, actually. (which I must say, I'm really beginning to miss, girl. I really enjoy hanging out with you. ^_^) It got to about... 11:00pm or so, when I decided to walk home. Yeah. I chose to walk home at 11pm. Louise's mother was concerned as to whether it was safe or not... but it is pretty safe here in Upper Hutt. You'd be surprised, actually. One would sorta think that yes, it might be dangerous... there'd be drunken teenagers out on the streets willing to beat up everyone who walks past, or try and mug me or something... but most of the time, it isn't.
I decided to take the more dangerous path, actually; along the backstreets of Upper Hutt (well, that is to say, I didn't take Fergusson Drive. It could be argued that Upper Hutt is just one giant backstreet XDXD). As I walked down Fraser Crescent and Redwood Street (which when it's almost midnight, is NOT very well lit), I came across a group of people who seemed to be my age. You would think that yeah, perhaps they'd be dangerous, right? But you know what they did? They said hello. They said "How's it goin'?" They said "Have a good evening". They showed respect. And I could swear they were drunk. XD But I know that all you do is just show respect to them, and they show respect back. There's nothing dangerous about it. Granted, there will be one out of ten encounters that may cost you your pride, or perhaps something more... so looks like I've got eight more to go, fellas.
I didn't get to sleep until 5am that morning. I had something I needed to work on. Haha.
Friday 14th April
Anyways, I woke up at about 10am, and did a few things around the house. Now, for those who don't know or haven't been keeping up, my whole family had gone to Hastings for the weekend, so I asked if the planned LAN Party could be held here. So as to maximize the time spent together, I decided to have it over the whole weekend, as opposed to just one night. So, when I woke up, I set up for the big day, night, and weekend ahead. My bedroom is empty. My lounge is quite the opposite, or at least it was. There was a big tangly mess of cables up by the television, all for the three essential elements of a LAN night: the computers, the network, and the loud music. XD
However, at about 11:30, I decided I had a quick errand to run. Haha.
So, I called up Sorien and told him I wasn't gonna be around for just under an hour; it was good that I called him, 'coz apparently he was getting ready to come over just as I called. Otherwise he would've shown up to an empty house, and that wouldn't have been good. XD
It did, however, seem I was wrong though. Something was a little out of place, but oh well.
I returned home. Eventually, Sorien arrived, and we brought his computer inside. I'd decided beforehand to restrict Internet access, on account of our bandwidth cap -- one of us playing World of Warcraft would be fine, but several of us all playing the game? That's a heck of a lot of data travelling up and down the cable; far more than I'm comfortable with. Until the rest of them arrived, however, I decided to connect the computers up to the Internet. Ahhh, wireless access point. I finally use you for what we intended you to be used for. XD
Hours later, after quite a bit of Amplitude and World of Warcraft, Malison and Spicey arrived. (As a side comment, I like how people have also started calling him Spicey. Dee, Sorien, Malison.... XD)
...
That's where the fun begins. XD! They brought over two plastic bags full of fizzy drinks (that's, uh, soda to most of you, pop to the rest), several bags of potato chips, their computers, and a highly positive, competitive attitude to the LAN Party. It was great. We hooked everything up, set up the network (which spanned two rooms. Sure, there were only four computers, but we were spaced nicely, and things were very very comfortable XD), and got all pumped for the night ahead. Not to mention we got hungry. lol. I thought beforehand to pull out some sausages to cook, so Spicey and Gee went out and got some chips (that's fries to most of you, french fries to the rest) while I cooked the sausages. Man, that was such a good feed. Topped off with the soda... and all for a low low price, too! It seriously beats each of us forking out to buy a pizza each. XD
Spicey gets his game on!
After dinner, we hopped to it. Gaming time! We played Unreal Tournament for a couple of hours, actually. I don't really remember how long we played for... we just kept playing and playing. Before we knew it, it was time for Sorien to go to bed. XD While he went down to my room to sleep -- the designated safe room of the house, where if you wanted to seriously sleep, that was where you went. Good luck trying to sleep amongst the cries of death and agony XD -- the rest of us continued on gaming for another few hours. No, really. We played lots of TacOps and UT, and before we knew it it was about 2am. We decided to give it a rest, 'coz A) we were getting just a little tired... B) it was getting a little boring without our dear friend Sorien... and C) we had the rest of the weekend to go. It was still great fun, though. Great great fun.
I grabbed a whole lot of blankets and other such things from my bedroom and brought them into the lounge. Man, I never knew these LA-Z-BOYs were so comfortable. Like, REALLY REALLY comfortable. Anyways, Spicey slept on one of the couches, and Malison... well, he ended up staying up all night playing Warcraft 3. Lol. I lay down on my LA-Z-BOY... and well, we ended up staying up 'til about 3am or so just talking and stuff. I think we fell asleep about quarter past or so (those of us who slept, anyway).
Saturday 15th April
Saturday morning came. 6am. Maz was awake. Gerdangit. XD I woke up and Malison was still playing Warcraft 3. He stopped for a second though to have a nap, so while he did, I pinched my laptop back and started studying for my Microsoft exam on Wednesday. I've been studying okay, even with everyone here. Part of the way through my study, I had a conversation with Nerida via text. Big long one, too. It was kinda cool, actually. I don't feel particularly close to Nerida (well, I consider her a friend but there's alot about her I wouldn't be able to tell you XD) but it feels great to talk with her. Prolly 'coz we don't talk that much, it's good to see her talking to me. XD
After a while, the girls started to wake up over at their Girls' Night. Glenn made his way to work, Spicey was still passed out for a little bit, and Malison was.... well, sleeping happily on the couch. XD Things were good, things were good. Malison woke up, and I played against him in Warcraft 3 a little -- I showed him the Ring Wars map, a really awesome Lord of the Rings map for the game. XD It was good stuff, and only a matter of time before the goddess herself arrived (that is, Deity... the other goddess, the Sound Goddess, lives a little under 15,000km away), armed with her gears.
Welcome to the LAN Party, Dee!
It was good when Dee came, actually. We found a space for her to put her computer, and she got hooked up to the network, so that was brilliant. We tried so hard to get her hard drive to work, but sadly, to no avail; she left her power cords up in Wanganui. Bummer, man. Big time. Still, it was good to have her around. I think she's one of the few people that can go from a Girls' Night to a Guys' Night and still feel comfortable. XD
She really loves her manga.
We hung out for a little bit, until finally at about 4:50pm or so, I decided it was time to begin cooking dinner, as Sorien was due to arrive home soon. So I slowly began to prepare dinner, amongst other things -- upon Dee's request, I connected the network up to the Internet, so that she could surf it. Lol. I cooked pasta spirals with beef mince and mixed vegetables, pizza and homemade garlic bread. As a funny story, the bread I was using to make the garlic bread ended up having bacon and cheese on it, whereas I thought it was plain! Sure surprised me, but it still tasted good anyway XD. Yeah, there was a minor Italian thing going on, kinda. XD
While I was cooking dinner, Lisa came over; when she arrived, I asked if she was staying for dinner, and said she was more than welcome to -- an invitation she accepted. So there were six of us, and boy did we have a feast. I cooked alot, it seemed, and we couldn't eat all of it.
Better to have cooked more than enough than less. XD
As we ate, I asked my friends as to whether they were enjoying dinner or not. I said to them "Suppose we were all living together in that big mansion. Is this what it would be like?" They replied "Yeah", and were really enjoying themselves and stuff, so that made me feel good as a host. It made me wonder if things would be like that. Spicey had imagined a long time ago all of us moving into some giant mansion and living together as a large group of friends... kinda like family. And I think that moment was one of the closest we as friends had ever come to that dream.
Sorien entertains mid-dinner.
I feel like a good host, actually. Almost like an unofficial cook for the group. It's not that I'm a great chef or anything, 'coz I know I'm not -- half the girls prolly cook bigger, more grand dishes than I do -- but it seems that at the majority of group gatherings, if there's cooking to be done, I'm involved in it in a more-than-minor way. Looking after the barbeque at Dee's house, or... cooking a ginormous meal for my friends in my own kitchen. That's me, alright. ;)
So yeah. Dinner was great, according to the standards of everyone who ate. So I was happy.
A little while later, Mina came over. We ended up going up town and hiring out the DOOM movie, as well as getting cheesecake (at the request of the Deity herself XD). That was cool, actually. We unfortunately didn't get around to watching it 'til a little later, so we had to turn the volume down just a little. But it wasn't too bad, actually. As a movie, it was okay. As the DOOM movie, it was a failure... but as just another mindless action movie, it did well. All the little in-things that us fanboys know were nodded to (such as Dr Carmack, Pinky, and of course, the BFG). Most of it felt alright. The first-person perspective was kinda funny, though. It felt like a really bad horror movie. XD
Mina arrives -- reunited with Malison!
But yeah. We watched that, and that was fun. After that, we bummed around on computers and such -- Dee wanted a couple of things, so I chucked those on her computer. She also ended up teasing Gelnn about how tall he is.
I think maybe he's grown!
We hung about and lazed about actually, just chilling, prolly trying to get to sleep. Some of us got more comfortable than others...
Sorien gets comfy on the couch
...while some chose to share a couch...
The Rock says "You need a bigger couch, Maz!"
The fortunate basked in their glory.
Wow. He really found a good spot.
...lol
We finally made it to sleep at about... 2:30am, maybe 3am. I figured I wouldn't get a lot of sleep. I was right. XD
Sunday 16th April
I woke up at 7am. Lol. Wonderful. Four hours of sleep each night for three nights. It's not too bad, actually. Danielle had to leave. I was kinda bummed, actually; I only remembered after she left there were a few things I was supposed to give her. Ah well. She came by later anyway, to pick up her gears and her computer. Her computer definitely looked the part at our LAN party, I have to say. Probably moreso than any of our computers. No games on it... but still! It looks nifty!
And she glows...
The remainder of the day was spent chilling. We got some more Unreal Tournament in. We would've played some Warcraft 3, but Spicey was having many problems getting it to run, sadly. It'd just keep restarting his computer and locking up and other such things... so he deleted it. Bah. Ah well. We still had many rounds of Unreal Tournament... including a gigantic deathmatch with heaps of bots. That round was FUN. Later on in the afternoon, at about 1pm, we just... laxed out, really. Sorien played some WoW... Spicey loaded up some Gunz... and Malison and I made beautiful music on Amplitude. That was great! That was GREAT! We worked more towards making the music sound good than getting the points. The last round was especially good, actually. Malison was almost beating me, even right 'til the end, which was cool. I would've been fine for him to beat me.... but then he stole my track (we'd designated the left three tracks to me, and the right three tracks to him, and he came and pinched one of my tracks to be cheeky), so I returned the favour by completely decimating him and making sure he'd never get his filthy hands on a track again. XDXD
There's definitely a Royal Flush in here!
Afterwards, I watched Malison and Mina have a crack at some Yu-Gi-Oh. Bit of a lazy afternoon, with not as much LANing going on... but I started to feel a little tired, anyway. I was awake enough to be awake, but not awake enough to do heaps. Chucked on the Joe Satriani DVD in the background and we just listened to that (in surround sound. Man, it sounds good XD).
At about 4pm, maybe 5pm, Malison and Mina had to leave. Mally had a great time, it would seem, so I was pleased. Very pleased. I admit, perhaps we all could've gotten a little more LANing in than we did, but that doesn't stop us from having a great time. So that was awesome. Was great to have ya buddy! :D
After he left, I chucked on The Matrix Reloaded DVD (ah, surround sound) and came to talk to people online. To be honest, I don't really remember what we ended up discussing, if anything. Oh yeah, there was Chu and K-chan and Twinnie. Lol. But basically I spent the remainder of the time just... waiting for Sorien and Spicey to go, really. They were more than welcome to stay as long as they wanted, and we ended up watching the movie anyway. XD Finally, at about 7:30 or so, LAN Night officially finished, with the departure of mah two niggaz. I was left with a minor mess to clean up (a mess which, might I say, looks tidy now). Now the computers have gone, the friends have gone, the mess is gone.... the food is gone XDXD... and all that remains are the memories of a great weekend at my house. But we have all had a good time... a great time, and I look forward to the next LAN party. We've agreed to try and have more of these parties; we only had a single one last year. Hopefully, this year, we'll spice things up. ;)
Remember a night in the life of friends.
And that, my friends, is how I celebrated Easter.
Wow, you know, just thinking about 'the strength' really is quite.. powerful. I'm glad things are going the way they are. I do admit, fear still lurks, silently, at times. After everyone had gone home, I did admit, I felt kinda lonely. Or maybe I felt just a little lonely all day (read: mildly TIRED XD), and when there really was no-one there, it hit me. But still, the entire weekend was great, everyone. To those who came, I thank you for coming. :)
