I read this when you first posted it, but was flat on my back and really can't type from that position. I love this chapter especially because of the imagery of Aya 'leading' them on the attack and then coming 'home' covered in blood, and their changes. And the bet at the end! *laughs* Oh dear. Poor Ken isn't going to know what hit him.

i thought that would do, and such a lovely image of sano declaring his love and it falling on deaf ears, being as sano is so very pretty

any time you post a new story or chapter! I love (but mourn for as well) the changes in Aya, as he now insists he be called, and Nagi. I delight in the constancy, balance and comfort Ken brings to the equation. Aya's conversation with Sano is wonderfully revealing embedded with just the right amount of mystery. I particularly love Aya's response to Sano, that he also has his father's strength as well as his sword, not to mention the wisdom to understand what Sano really offers and the reality of his situation. Aya's leadership in battling the bandits was another great way to show his change. Even the little things, like the way Aya strokes Nagi's hair are revealing. Perhaps best of all is Crawford's surprise at the change in Aya -- both what he wanted, and (possibly) not what he wanted at all. I eagerly look forward to seeing how Crawford responds to the change.
