THIS IS WAR: [Okay, not really. And no, not 30 Seconds To Mars] K-pop vs. J-pop

Aug 26, 2012 21:15

I still haven't translated K-chan NEWS and MASTER HITS from last week, so please bear with me orz ;__; I shall definitely post it before the next episode of K-chan NEWS, so please wait a bit longer. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. /bow

Anyway as you can see in the title of this entry, this is regarding K-pop and J-pop. I won't exactly compare and contrast these two because [I don't think it's really something to compare.] Besides, I don't know much about K-pop, being the non-K-pop fan, so I really might sound too biased if I do contrast them.

But I really really wanted to blog about this when I looked up Gangnam Style by PSY on Youtube. I'm sure some of you are aware of Gangnam Style. It's been trending all over the world and been talked about in different social networking sites. I got so curious so I looked it up. It's a catchy song. The video might look really stupid, but I think it was entertaining in a way :)) Even if the song is said to have a different meaning behind it.

But it's not really about Gangnam Style that I really wanted to talk about. It's about one of the comments that I read on Youtube on the video. And the first comment I noticed was this:

As soon as I read this, I GOT SO PISSED. YOU DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND. And I didn't get pissed only as a J-pop fan, but as a Japanese. I've never been offended about my race ever in my whole life.

Personally, I'm not a K-pop fan nor do I even like it [I only like minimal of them]. I only like a few songs which I find catchy or good, but that's really it.

But I also pretty lost my respect after I heard the issue about one of the members of T-ara (...right? HAHA Correct me if I'm wrong ><) leaving because she was getting bullied by her members. Is that even how you treat your co-members?? How the heck do you expect the fans to love you if you can't love your own co-members?

And also, one of the things I really hate the most about K-pop is that most K-pop artists aim too much perfection. Most artists gone through plastic surgeries. To what I see, they promote too much of 'looking' perfect especially for the female artists. They make it look like being skinny and pretty is the standard, that you have to be like this and that or else you're not the it. And as idols, I think that they're suppose to be public figures whom people can look up to; people who promote being yourself and accepting who you are and that it's okay to make mistakes. They're suppose to be people who inspire you to be comfortable with your natural self because that's what this world needs; the acceptance of who you are and being loved for that. But what I see in K-pop is the opposite. Yes, excellence is good. Being globally competitive is a good thing too. But how is their any originality if you try to blend in with everyone else?

I don't hate K-pop. But there are just factors that I really hate in K-pop, especially having lots of insecurities. And while I slowly learn to love everything about myself, I begin to realize that I can't seem to appreciate something so unnatural. And unnatural is all I see in K-pop. But of course, these are my own point of view. I'm sure there's more to this that only the fans can see. And I highly respect their views and their fandom itself. I highly respect them. I have a lot of friends who like K-pop and I respect them for that. I have to admit, hearing them talk about something outside my own fandom is interesting.

But the comment above was VERY disrespectful. First of all, there are a lot of Japanese fans who are also K-pop fans. CAN'T YOU EVEN BE MORE THANKFUL THAT THEY'RE EVEN PAYING ATTENTION? And immaturity doesn't even have anything to do with this. You must be immature for even talking crap about the Japanese people.

And jealous???? EXCUSE ME????? Japan has J-pop and it has nothing on K-pop. J-pop may not be as popular as K-pop now, but you just don't know how plenty the J-pop fans are around the world. If J-pop wasn't as popular and very low like you say, do you think artists like AKB48, One Ok Rock and other artists would have gone on international? Heck, look at L'Arc~en~Ciel, they had a freaking world tour, okay? J-pop doesn't need to be as exposed as K-pop. J-pop is original that way.

I'm even thankful that J-pop is not mainstream. I want J-pop to stay the way it is. I only wish a few artists to be internationally popular.

So don't ever say we're jealous. I'm so glad J-pop is SO MUCH different from K-pop anyway.

AND GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. JAPAN IS NOT A FALLING COUNTRY. I think you're gonna need some review on Japan. If it was, why do you think everyone abroad dream of going to Japan? Believe me or not, 90% of my non-Japanese friends dream of going to Japan. So don't ever say how low Japan is.

AND JAPANESE PEOPLE ARE NOT HARD-WORKING AND EDUCATED?? Excuse me??? JAPANESE PEOPLE LIVE ON THEIR CAREERS. Most of the reasons the Japanese go on suicidal tendencies are all related to losing their jobs or flopping careers. IT'S THE CAREERS THAT MAKE JAPAN A HIGH CLASS COUNTRY, OKAY. And not educted? Do you think these people can work without being even educated? EVEN THE J-POP IDOLS VALUE THEIR EDUCATION AS MUCH AS THE ORDINARY STUDENTS DO, OKAY. And these people are even earning while they study. SO DON'T EVER SAY THAT KIND OF CRAP LIKE JAPANESE PEOPLE ARE STUPID. MAYBE YOU ARE FOR EVEN TALKING LOWLY AT THE JAPANESE PEOPLE.

I am not being biased being a J-pop fan and a Japanese. I just really really find it offensive to talk lowly at my race this way.

For the K-pop fan readers of this blog, I'm sorry if I might have offended you. I really really respect you and your fandom and all these are just my personal views. But I still like some stuff about K-pop, so please don't hate me ><

personal, rant, jpop
