Ah yes, the GREATEST of all mech anime is back! And I have that warm fuzzy feeling back that reminds me of the good old days when anime was rare and there was only one shop in glasgow that sold it on VHS. Remember Macross first came out in 1982, BETAMAX was still in circulation then ^^
Today I'm faced with 2 different tellings of Episode 1 of the new Macross series, the official Episode 1, which was aired in April, and the De-culture Edition, which was aired in December.
On one hand we have a slight expansion on character background and story but it detracts from the de-culture's longer fighting sequences and more tense atmosphere. I'd think it'd be a hell of a lot better if they just merged the two episodes to make a feature lengthed opening episode, since most of the animation was used in both versions.
Oh and for anyone who hasnt seen Macross with their transforming Mech/Fighter Planes... Dont give me the "oh its just transformers theyre copying their idea" ... TransFormers was frist created in 1984, meaning Macross was there first, however Gundam (the original giant mech anime) was first aired in 1979 with Gundam 0079.
And despite what all the forums are saying about Macross F's opening song, I quite like it.
