Author: seoulkokoro
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Junhyung/Hyunseung
Summary: I find life annoying. I feel like I have nothing to live for, and no reason to be happy. Will you show me otherwise?
A/N: I have a lot of crap going on in my life right now. TT-TT Writing junseung makes me happy though, so I wrote this to cheer myself up. >.> I’m also seriously angry at how freaking hot it is here, and I want to share my pain with Junnie. >:D mwhahaa~
Reason Three: Adrenaline Rushes
The rain had stopped, Junhyung’s cold was gone, and his dad never suspected Hyunseung threw a party last night.
Everything seemed perfect, right?
Wrong.
Junhyung thought he would die-thought he would shrivel up and be reduced to a mere pile of ashes, because the weather was much, much too hot for anyone’s liking.
Junhyung fanned himself with his hand as he walked down the sidewalk with Hyunseung. He could feel the beads of perspiration forming all over his forehead, and he had to constantly push his sunglasses back up to the bridge of his nose, due to all this sweating. He groaned, closing his eyes in annoyance as the sun burned into him.
“Hyunseung…” he whined. “…Where are we going? I’m freaking hot…”
Hyunseung was clearly sweating too, but he didn’t seem to show any signs of annoyance. He just coolly walked down the street as if it was ideal weather.
“Stop complaining,” he told Junhyung firmly. “We’re almost there anyway.”
The two walked for another few minutes before reaching a convenient store. Junhyung raised his eyebrows when Hyunseung stopped in front of the establishment. He was about to throw out another complaint, but Hyunseung spoke before him.
“Wait here. I’ll be right back.”
And now Junhyung was wondering why he was the only one who had to stand out in the scorching hot weather while Hyunseung got to go in the air conditioning.
The 120 seconds Hyunseung was in the store was far too long for Junhyung. He was too hot to even be surprised when Hyunseung returned holding two ice cream cones. Hyunseung gave one to Junhyung, and the two of them sat on a bench nearby, which was fortunately placed under the shade of a large tree. Hyunseung peeked over at Junhyung, who was just staring at the treat. He nudged him in the side.
“Yah, stop staring like an idiot and enjoy it.”
Junhyung glared at the other through his dark glasses. “How can I eat in this heat?” he said, as if it was a perfectly normal explanation.
Hyunseung rolled his eyes. “It’s quite easy, actually. You simply stick your tongue out and touch it to the ice cream. Something even you could accomplish…”
Hyunseung smirked when he caught the scowling eyes through Junhyung’s lenses.
Junhyung reluctantly started eating, but to his surprise, it actually hit the spot. He continued licking the ice cream, eventually cooling down just a bit. Hyunseung looked proud of himself.
“I told you it was easy. Stupid Junhyung…” he sighed, shaking his head.
Junhyung elbowed the other. “Shut up,” but he followed his comment by a smile. Junhyung didn’t miss the small smile that formed on Hyunseung’s lips either.
“Thanks,” Junhyung said when he finished the ice cream.
Hyunseung leaned back on the bench, as he was already finished. “No problem.”
The pair sat in a short silence, simply watching as the few people who were braving the weather walking along the path. Junhyung let out a little chuckle. Hyunseung looked at him, raising an eyebrow.
“What?”
Junhyung was still smiling. “I was just thinking…”
“About?”
“About how idiotic we are to go play in the rain, and then go outside in blazing hot weather and just sit around like it’s nothing.”
Hyunseung laughed a little too. “Yeah…we really are idiots,” he agreed.
Junhyung nodded, looking at the cloudless sky.
Hyunseung closed his eyes, his head tilting back a little. “I like doing things like this. It’s much more fun than then sitting around with strangers who I have no interest in.”
Junhyung looked at the other, cocking an eyebrow. “So, you’re saying you have an interest in me?”
Hyunseung smirked. “…Slightly.”
Junhyung grinned. “I don’t see why you wouldn’t. I’m so interesting it’s not even funny.”
Hyunseung scoffed. “Yeah, it takes a real interesting person to waste their summer sitting on the couch doing nothing and not even get drunk when there’s a party.” He paused. “At your own house, not to mention.”
Junhyung shot him a glare. “First of all, that party wasn’t my idea. I wanted no part in it. Second, my friends are on vacation so I don’t have anything to do except sit on the couch.”
Hyunseung smiled. “You have friends?”
Junhyung leaned over, pushing Hyunseung’s shoulder playfully with his own. “Just shut up, Jang Hyunseung.”
“That’s impossible. Jang Hyunseung never shuts up.”
Junhyung nodded in agreement, smiling. “Very true.”
After a small pause, Hyunseung stood. “Let’s go home. It’s freaking hot.”
Junhyung looked at him in disbelief, but he stood as well. “I said that like, ten minutes ago.”
Hyunseung shrugged. “I know. Your point?”
Junhyung sighed. He really is impossible…
Junhyung was snapped from his thoughts when he felt an arm drape around him. He looked over at Hyunseung who was now walking, his arm casually hanging over Junhyung shoulder. Junhyung raised an eyebrow. “Getting friendly, are we?”
Hyunseung shrugged again. “I feel lovable today. You better consider yourself lucky. Otherwise you might find yourself cleaning up after another party,” he shot Junhyung a grin.
Junhyung grinned back. “All right, then. No complaints here.”
Junhyung’s dad smiled at the two boys entering the house, who were sweating uncontrollably.
“Did you guys have fun?”
Junhyung frowned, narrowing his eyes. “Yeah, we had a lot of fun sitting in the heat.”
Junhyung’s dad blinked. “Why would you do that?”
Junhyung pointed to Hyunseung, who was already walking towards his room. “Blame that idiot.” Junhyung said, his lips curving into an unconscious smile.
Hyunseung walked away with his back turned to the others, but sure enough, he too was wearing a smile.
“You’re so 4-D,” Junhyung said, as he watched the TV in his room.
Hyunseung lay beside him, his face blank as he didn’t bother ungluing his eyes from the show. “Huh?”
“You’re 4-D,” Junhyung repeated.
“Am I?” the other asked, his voice not really showing much interest.
Junhyung nodded, even though he wasn’t even looking at the other boy. “You are. You’re definitely the craziest person I’ve met.”
This apparently caught Hyunseung’s attention, because he turned his head, meeting Junhyung’s gaze. “Really?”
Junhyung nodded again.
Hyunseung stared for a while, then pursed his lips. “I feel honored.”
Junhyung felt a smile tugging at his lips. “Why?”
Hyunseung ‘s face suddenly lit up, and his eyes grew larger than usual, if that was possible. “Wait, I just got an idea!” he said, pushing the previous subject behind.
Junhyung raised his eyebrows expectantly. “What?”
Junhyung watched the rather sly smile sneak across Hyunseung’s lips. “Let’s sneak out tonight.”
Junhyung blinked. “Sneak out where?”
Hyunseung shrugged. “That doesn’t matter. Let’s just go somewhere in the middle of the night. Doesn’t that sound like fun?”
Junhyung stared. “To most normal people, no, that just sounds idiotic.”
Hyunseung rolled his eyes. “Oh, whatever. We’re not normal people anyway,” he grinned. “We leave at midnight, kay?”
Junhyung for some reason didn’t find himself protesting. He wanted to ask-wanted to ask where the hell they would go at midnight. He wanted to ask Hyunseung if he was sane, because he seemed far from it. He wanted to talk to Hyunseung-talk to him and tell him that these spontaneous events have been fun, have caused adrenaline rushes for Junhyung.
But he kept his mouth shut and just waited. He just waited for midnight to come.
He remembered the feeling of his boiling blood when he saw the party Hyunseung threw. He remembered the heat he felt welling up in his body when he danced with that drunken version of Hyunseung. He remembered sitting in the sun and playing in the rain.
All with Hyunseung.
Had Junhyung never lived before? He wondered why he’d been such a coward all this time.
Junhyung watched the clock, and just as it struck midnight, he heard a light knock on his door, right on time. He hopped up, trying not to seem too anxious, and opened the door, careful to prevent it from squeaking.
Hyunseung grinned. “Evening.”
Junhyung couldn’t hide his smile. “Hello.”
“Ready to go?” Hyunseung said, his smile dropping as he casually shoved hi s hands in his pockets.
Junhyung nodded, closing the door behind him as he followed Hyunseung down the stairs. They tiptoed out of the house and down the dark streets. They made their way down the road, a fair distance from Junhyung’s house, when Junhyung turned to the orange-haired boy.
“So…now what?”
Hyunseung looked at the other, an odd sparkle shining in his eyes. “Anything. We can do anything we want, now.”
“What do you want to do?” Junhyung countered, curious as to what Hyunseung was thinking.
Hyunseung paused a moment, looking into the distance before starting his walk down the sidewalk again. “Follow me.”
The pair walked for a long while, Junhyung thought he was going to die considering the path Hyunseung chose was steep and uphill. He groaned a few times, but tried to force back complaints. He wanted Hyunseung to show him whatever he was going to show him. He wanted Hyunseung to have his fun, and he wanted to feel that adrenaline rush that he was so fond of, even if it was rare.
Although, being with Hyunseung guaranteed it.
Junhyung continued trudging up the seemingly endless hill, his breathing getting a little heavier. He wondered if he was just out of shape.
Finally, they made it to the top. On the top of the hill was a field, an empty field covered in grass that wasn’t even growing very tall. This was a surprise to Junhyung, considering grass is always growing faster in the summer, and bugs are always roaming around in it. It also surprises Junhyung that Hyunseung would pick such a place to go. He decided to shrug it off for now, and simply took a seat beside the already sitting Hyunseung.
Hyunseung lay back, looking at the sky. He glanced over at Junhyung. “Lie down.”
Junhyung did as he was told, slowly lying down on his back. He liked the feeling of the short grass. Plus, there weren’t any pesky bugs jumping from grass blade to grass blade. Junhyung sighed.
“…So, why here?”
Hyunseung paused a moment, taking in the sights of the sky. “I dunno. I saw this hill when I arrived here, and I’ve been interested in coming ever since.”
Junhyung turned on his side, now facing Hyunseung. He propped himself up with one hand, resting it on the side of his head. “You could’ve told me. I would’ve brought you here.”
Hyunseung shrugged. “I wanted to wait. Tonight’s perfect for stargazing anyway, right?”
Junhyung smiled a bit. “Except the fact that it’s freaking hot out here…”
Hyunseung elbowed the other boy. “Shut up. At least it’s not afternoon. You’d be dead by now, considering you walked up that hill. And you’re really out of shape, by the way.”
Junhyung felt his cheeks get a little warm, and he thanked God it was pass midnight.
“You shut up.”
Hyunseung smiled. “Make me.”
Junhyung shook his head, sighing. “You’re just being childish.” He paused, then leaned in a little closer to Hyunseung’s face, studying him. “…Your personality is so…odd.”
Hyunseung rolled his eyes. “I thought we already went through this.”
Junhyung quickly shook his head. “No, I mean, it’s not bad or anything.” He reached out, tousling the other’s hair gently. “…I like it.”
Hyunseung looked away, turning his attention to the stars. “Yeah, right.”
Junhyung frowned. “I do.”
Hyunseung didn’t answer; he merely stared at the sky, that blank face covering his features again.
Junhyung wondered why Hyunseung’s face always went blank like that. He looked tired, like his eyelids were going to shut at any second, but on the other hand, he looked wide awake-like he’d do something you don’t expect, because that’s just how Hyunseung is.
That’s just how he is and Junhyung has nothing wrong with it.
He doesn’t have a thing wrong with it.
He likes it.
Hyunseung continues to gawk at the sky, and Junhyung turns his head, following the other boy’s gaze. He looks up at the tiny specs of light, then back at Hyunseung.
“Hyunseung?”
“Hm?”
“…What’s so interesting about the stars anyway?”
Hyunseung looked at Junhyung. “What?”
Junhyung pointed a finger up to the sky. “The stars.”
Hyunseung paused, looking up at the sky, then back at Junhyung. “I don’t know, honestly.”
Junhyung sighed. “That doesn’t seem like a very Hyunseung-ish answer…”
Hyunseung suddenly started laughing at the comment. “Were you expecting something different?”
Junhyung nodded slowly.
Hyunseung smiled. “Then it was a Hyunseung-ish answer.”
Junhyung raised an eyebrow.
Hyunseung saw his expression and sighed, knowing he’d have to explain. “You expected me to give you an explanation, and I did the thing you least expect, so therefore, it’s a Hyunseung-ish answer,” he followed the statement by a grin.
Junhyung stared for a moment, then the corners of his mouth gradually got pulled up. “Ah, I see now.”
Hyunseung’s smile suddenly dropped and he blinked slowly, turning to face Junhyung.
“Junhyung?”
“Yeah?”
“I’m going to do something unexpected, okay?”
Junhyung smirked. “…Okay?”
Hyunseung frowned, unintentionally pouting. “Just close your eyes.”
Junhyung smiled, doing as he was told. “Okay, boss, now what?”
There was a pause, a silence. Junhyung furrowed his eyebrows a bit, about to ask what Hyunseung was doing, but the question was answered itself.
He felt a pair of warm, soft lips pressing gently on to his. He felt slender fingers cup his face, and forgot the humid weather. Forgot the grass. Forgot the sky. Forgot the time, and forgot that his dad might wake up and see his empty bed.
He experienced an adrenaline rush.~
