Title: take a chance

Summary: he opens the door and waits for death.

“Hyung, what was the life back then like?” asks Kibum and Jungsu’s dull eyes light up as he talks animatedly about his favourite bodies of water. Jungsu describes the sky as if he’s flown in it before and Kibum is fascinated, entranced by the words that leaves Jungsu’s lips until Jungsu ends it with, “You won’t know until you’ve seen it.” and he smiles that sad smile of his, eyes turning dull again and he turns to the wall and Kibum imagines that Jungsu is counting sheep and seeing flowers in the gray walls of the cell. They’re trapped in the same gray walls, trapped in space.
Kibum is curious and his curiosity grows stronger with every story Jungsu tells. Jungsu is lucky, thinks Kibum, because he’s seen a different life before. Jungsu is lucky because he knows what everyone else doesn’t and he doesn’t have to fight off the curiosity that grows and grows inside.
“What are you doing?!” they shriek at him and Kibum smiles, steely and frightened. “I’m taking a chance,” he says. He’s lived a boring, uneventful life of rights and maybe, maybe it’s time he did something. He opens the door and waits for death.
