All last week the local schools were closing down/being let out early, and the faculty in the poli-sci office were bitching about it. Something about how when they were young the schools were never closed for cold weather. Blah blah blah...that's very easy to say when they drive to work and park in the nice close parking garage; some us walk and have to wait for the bus, etc. *shrug* This week, as I predicted, they were commenting on how ridiculous it was having to drive through the snow...Heh. Imagine walking through it...
President Holbrook, hated by most, had announced a doctrine that the university would remain open as long as there was heat in the buildings. LOL. But uh, not all of the buildings have had heat...
Charles made a mock speech in her defense, because he likes to be difficult like that.
Charles: "We are the flagship university. Grand, large, and impressive, we set the standard for everyone else..." Etc.
Me: "Like the Titanic?
Anyway, yesterday, Holbrook had to eat her words and all "nonessential personnel" were to leave campus because it was shutting down at 1:30. Well, we were already a Level One snow emergency, and some local counties had become Level Two. Whatever that means. Level Three means they arrest you for driving. If they can catch you. =P So I called Fong and we got the Hell home.
Tex, who happens to sort of be my neighbor now, contacted me to see if we were interested in building a snowman. *shrug* Sounded cool. I napped, and when he got his lazy arse over to my place, Fong, Tex, and I went out to try and build a snowman...unfortunately, the snow was buried under about half an inch of ice and freezing rain was coming down rather hard. After finding my gloves and clearing off my car, we just ended up having a snowball fight. Fong & me versus army boy. It was a lot of fun. Even if I only knocked him over once and he dropped me on my head half a dozen times. I haven't had a good snow fight since...I don't remember, but it was back when I still lived w/ a gajillion small children... Our next door neighbor joined us briefly, before realizing he was too much of a wuss to hang around.
Fong tried making snow angels but didn't actually weigh enough to break the ice. -_-;; I just ended up laying in the snow laughing. It was grand. Eventually we went back inside, I made lasagna, these Chinese meat things, homemade fries, and a SoCo & coke and we settled down to play the Donkey Kong drum game. It was rather pointless, but overall a good time.
Then this morning I got up, and the campus was still closed. My other roommate's car is stuck so she won't be going to work. Heh.
What to do today...?
Oh yea, happy Valentine's Day AKA Singles' Awareness Day or something. I'd bitch or something, but it's a fucking SNOWDAY, first one OSU has ever given me. That totally takes priority over any other holiday. ^_^
