It seems that neither of Minako's parents are home right now, which is a great relief to the young girl because it means that she's able to play her music very loudly. And she does

((OOC: Starting a new thread in here in case you guys wanted to continue the conversation a little before Rei's arrival. ^_^ Well, that and LJ squishes threads.))
Rei was late, and it was entirely her grandfather's fault. Ever since finding out about her 'other' identity (kind of hard not to, given everything that had happened), her grandfather had taken to asking her questions every single time she informed him she was going out. She knew it was mostly out of concern - he was more of a father to her than her real father, and even when she tried to hide her injuries, he always seemed to know they were there.
...that, and she kind of suspected that he'd developed a bit of a fascination with some of her friends ever since seeing them in the ultra short skirts that were part and parcel of a senshi's battle attire. But that was just somewhere she preferred to avoid, for the sake of keeping her brain intact.
Knocking on the door, she called, "Hey, sorry I'm late!"
Within seconds of Rei knocking on the door, it is yanked open. "Rei-chan! Welcome!" Minako squeals, hugging the girl quickly. She motions for Rei to enter and sit down, and hurries over to the kitchen.
"Don't worry about being late!" She shouts from the kitchen. Clattering dishes can be heard coming from the room. "I have a surprise for both of you!" The sharp sound of glass breaking echoes out from the kitchen.
"I'll just be, ah, one more second~! Sit down, get comfortable!"
Have no fear, Rei, Ami is hard at work on a solution to that skirt problem. She should have a solution . . . uh, any day now! Really. (Cracking Silver Millenium programming language was harder than it looked, especially with only a preset compiling program installed on their henshin sticks.)
Ami looks up from her soda and nods to Rei, smiling. "You're not late," she says. "I only just got here myself." She scoots over to give the other girl some room, then tucks a strand of hair behind her ear. "How're . . . so how've things been at the shrine these days?"
Rei winced at the sound of the glass breaking in the kitchen. "...maybe we should give her a hand?" she asked.
She took a seat, stretched out, and let out a little relieved breath. Any time that Rei hadn't been working as a Senshi, she'd been busily at work at the temple, or with schoolwork. She had a sneaking suspicion that her grandfather was going out of his way to keep her busy so that she wouldn't go out as Sailor Mars, but she found time for it anyhow. When push came to shove, Rei was good at organizing things - especially managing her own time.
"It's been good for the most part," she said. "Though, grampa worries about me when he sees some of my injuries from time to time, and he's been asking a lot of questions."
Ami blinks, then leans back to look over the couch and into the kitchen, eyebrows raised. "Might be a good idea, but she said she was fine," Ami says. Just in case, she shouts, "Are you sure you're okay?" in Minako's direction.
She nods at Rei, re-situating herself on the couch with a sigh. Ami more commonly needed to find more things to do to fill the time than the other way around, which was really no less stressful on her mental faculties, as much as she preferred to act otherwise. "My mom asks a lot of questions, too. The best way I've found to deal with all of them is to be as honest as I can be about what I do." Ami smiles a little sadly. "It helps, sometimes. Sometimes . . . it doesn't." She sits up some more on the couch, taking a sip of her soda. "But . . . I'd imagine it's different, when your caretaker's actually one of your parents. I don't know what your grandpa's like." Besides an incredible pervert, but that's neither here nor there. "Maybe he's just afraid of losing the only family he's got left
( ... )
Rei shook her head. "Don't worry about it...I'm fairly sure that's exactly how he feels."
Rei had her moments where she could be a hot-head, but she could accept when other people had a point, no matter how blunt it actually was. After all, she did offset some of her temper by being an organized person and a spiritual person. Those two things did help keep herself in check, though it also made her one heck of a multitasker and the sort of person who was driven way beyond what a normal person experienced. Though, if there was one thing she noted, it was that Ami always managed to make Rei feel as though she was right in the range of normal, when it came to the workload she chose to take on.
"I...just wish that he'd trust me enough to know that I won't do anything stupid."
"I'm just fine!" Minako finally answers, stepping into the living room and placing a platter on the low table. On the platter are....lumps. They might be cookies?
...is that a chocolate chip?
"I made you guys cookies!" Minako exclaims, sitting down in an armchair. She looks at her comrades expectantly. "Well? Try them! It's my own special recipe."
