I can't believe it's September already. The past couple of months have just flown by. It's probably because I've been busy during the week. When you're actually spending Monday through Friday being productive, time passes much quicker, I guess.
Overall, I say it was a good summer. I travelled a little, entered the 9-5 workforce, and reconnected with a couple of people, and started coming into my own, as they say. This is going to be the first time I've gone through a summer and have not had to return back to school. That's kind of awesome. Means that the next part of my life has begun.
It's weird, this is also the first time that I've really had to plan for my future. For the past 17 years, I've gone through the same cycle of school to summer and back to school. But now I've gotten off that loop and began a new one.
Do I miss that stability and comfort? A little. Although the excitement and anticipation of what's coming is far greater.
Anyway, moving beyond reflection....
My position at Comcast has been revised. Instead of focusing on sales, my main focus is now on retention of customers. Rather than having to get 20 sales in a month, I now have to make 10 saves. I'm happy about this change, though saving is in many ways more difficult than selling. I'm looking forward to the challenge, though.
Also, with my new position comes a new salary. Since my chances of sales are now reduced (though I still have that ability), I'm getting a raise of $10K to my yearly total. Also, since I'm essentially one of the first ones on the team, I may be moved to another territory and put into a leadership position, though that's farther down the line. That's really great, I think. Heh, only worked there for three months and already I'm renegotiating my contract! It'll help, though, and allow me to start saving more money for my move.
Speaking of which, I think I might push my migration back to late summer. If I flourish in my position and get reassigned as a leader (with, again, higher pay), I'd want to work in that position, save more money, and make sure I leave someone who would be capable of replacing me. This way, if the acting career (God forbid) stalls, I'm able to go to work at Comcast in Chicago and not have left a bad taste in my manager's mouth. That's strictly the back-up plan, though.
Today I got a computer interface for my guitar, which means I can start recording my hot licks. Once the next payday rolls around, and bills are paid, I'm buying myself a microphone, so the real hot stuff can get put down. It's an investment, and the interface is definitely something I can use in the future.
My birthday's coming up soon. 20 days, to be exact. I'll have spent 22 glorious years on Mama Earth.
Geez, 20 days? That's going to fly by quickly.
Well, my cigarette's done. Which means it's time to wrap this up and go to bed.
Until next time...
