Basic Improv, class 1 of 10

I wish I could give something profound and awesome for people to take home from this post, but I don't have anything yet.

Anyway, the trip was really straightforward: get up at 4:30, get to oakland before 6, enjoy the TV in the seats, and get to class on time.
It's so much easier to deal with turbulence if you're distracted by trying to figure out what Adam and Jamie are up to.

The class itself is still just starting.  All we really did were a few exercises, some background on the class and the company, giving our introductions, and some other games.   There's a total of 12 people in the class at the moment: we'll see how many keep through.

Part of the class is to overcome fears: fear of the unknown, fear of public speaking, fear of audience reaction, etc.  So these introductions are done individually, you go to the center of the group and tell them some of your background.  Specifically, the question was "Besides your computer or your bed, name three things in your house/apartment that are important to you."

Most people were happy to talk about some of their passions.  A few people were more shy, and were convinced their lives were boring.  But of course, they weren't: they're only boring if you see them every day.  Other people might find the fact that "you used to be roommates with a clown" very fascinating.

I suppose that's really the most important thing to learn from the class: here are 12 people who have decided to do something new in their lives, and to learn something for themselves.  Everyone here has some ambition and really wants the class to work for them.

There's a certain kind of energy working with people that have ambitions.
