It's official: Google Mail is pitched at self-conscious morons.

Christ, no wonder it's still in beta...

Bullet point 6 (after the ones about coloured labels and...I'm not making this up...new emoticons) of the revised and updated "What's been keeping the Google Mail team busy" feature reads:

'Embarrassment-reducing new message notifications

Ever replied to a message only to find out that someone sent a better, smarter reply right before you? [Er, no. Never.]

Now, if someone sends a reply while you're in the middle of reading a conversation (or replying to it), you'll get a notification that a new message has arrived. Click "update conversation" to see what you’ve missed.'

Successfully pissing off Steve Ballmer (http://sensaes.livejournal.com/518611.html) must've got to them.

I just hope they're ready for the next influx of job applications from LiveJournal staff...

Edit: On the subject of e-mail, requests for a new meme duly noted. Other fish to fry at the moment, but I'll probably get around to it...

Another Techie Edit: Firefox comes pre-loaded on the Asus Eee (or EEE), because of the device's general open-sauciness, but I've been telling people that the browser's a pile of wonky-coded shit for years:

Who wants to listen to a burning mammal when there's Opera available? (Damn, they should use that in the marketing...)
