Tonight was one of the nights when I realized that there a thousand things happening at any moment on this campus and if you take a look around you're bound to find something interesting. I didn't have anything to do tonight, so I had stayed in watching TV and then a movie. Around midnight, I get a little cabin fever and decide to go take a walk to return a library book and drop my Netflix in the mail. I thought I'd be back in 15 minutes. It turned out to be a bit more of an adventure.
On the way to the library I ran into two friends, stopped and chatted with them for five minutes or so. It wasn't much, but I got to talk to some people and it was a start to the night. When I get to the library, I notice a crowd standing outside Kogan Plaza. Turns out the Schenley, one of the dorms, had caught fire earlier and these were all the people who were stuck waiting outside to get back in. There was fire damage on the outside of the building. I wouldn't even have known if I hadn't taken the walk. I chatted with the people outside for 10 minutes or so.
I walked back to Ivory and just as I was about to go in I ran into my friend David from high school. He asked me what I was up to and when I said "Nothing," he invited me to a party with him and five of his friends. The party was in Guthridge and the room was packed. Really very hot with all the bodies in there. I got some alcohol and some conversation out of the deal. Talked to some interesting people. Good time. As we were leaving, we were walking down F Street and passing the construction site. Rob Diggs, the basketball player, was sitting with a dude and two girls. We walked past and then he called us over, introduced himself, asked what we were doing tonight, joked around with us. He was really very friendly...and drunk as hell, but that doesn't matter. The whole situation was hilarious.
All this just because I decided to take a walk.
