Report 004 [Video/Voice|Backdated to the afternoon of the 15th of February (because the mun fails)]

Feb 17, 2011 21:49

[Ah, Valentine's Day. Or rather, the day after Valentine's Day, because Robert was far too mopey (over a certain ex-partner of eight years ago and some certain feelings that have been bothering him as of late) and awkward to actually try to talk to anybody during the actual day. Plus he was attempting to make the most of the advice he had gotten...

You got me something?? Really? Where are you?

Yes, I did. [Robert's voice has a surprisingly kindly tone.]

I am at my home right now. [Screw the space-time continuum!] That is Community Building Three, Floor One, Room Three - if you're curious as to exactly where.

[...Well, she's already given out most of her special chocolate arrangements, and it probably wouldn't hurt to leave the basket in the square. There's a rip as she tears a page from the journal; she's making a sign for said basket. |D]

Okay, I'll be there soon!

[Sure enough, in a few minutes, there'll be a gentle knock on Robert's door.]

[Robert's certainly popular today. He picks up the box of chocolates intended for Vivi and walks over to the door, opening it.

... Man, Vivi's so very small. Robert realizes that it's because she's quite young. Still, he's not used to seeing people even shorter than he is.] Ah, hello, Miss Aislinn.

Um... hi, mister Hastings! [She curtsies, or tries to. Too much winter clothing in the way. In any case, she'll offer up the box of chocolates to him.] I hope you like them.

[Robert carefully takes the box from her, still smiling softly.] Ah, I see I've been somewhat... uncreative. [As an explanation, he shows her the box he'd gotten for her.] I do hope you enjoy them though, even if they're rather... standard.

[He really does like this little girl, and wants her to feel like some men can inspire things other than fear.]

It's fine, mister Hastings. [She giggles lightly.] I really like chocolate, and, um... [She pauses, trying to think of how to spin it.] ...Well, I coulda just bought some for myself, but getting chocolates from other people makes them taste a lot better!

[She's still slightly nervous, and maybe a little paranoid; taking the box, she'll open it right away and nom on a random chocolate. Ooh, strawberry creme filling. She smiles widely, breaking out into mini-giggle fits again.] It was really good! Just like I said!

[Robert's nervous too - paranoid, no, but his usual mild anxiety which comes from meeting a new person, plus the anxiety of this person being so different from what he usually deals with - but Vivi's playful giggling and sweet demeanour are reassuring.]

I am glad you enjoyed it. [He smiles again - Vivi reminds him, in a strange way, of his own childhood.] Would you like anything to drink, Miss Aislinn?

[...He really is a sweet guy. He kind of reminds Vivi of her real mother, except a lot smarter. She'll look up at him and smile politely, her own anxiety calmed somewhat. Also, the chocolates don't seem to be poisoned, so that's a plus! /shot]

Sure! Do you have any tea or hot chocolate?

Tea, I do. It's... interesting, because on Terra there aren't many tea plantations. They don't often take well to hydroponic farming. [Robert heads over to brew the tea in the small kettle he keeps in his apartment. Having so few things means that Robert has more space to keep appliances and objects in his home, which keeps him out of the shared kitchens of the apartments - which he likes, generally, due to social anxiety.] Mr. Sprensonne - Helios, that is [...and at his name a little, almost dreamy smile flits across Robert's face...] - and Doctor Mizuno Ami both introduced me to the fresh tea here. I must say, it's significantly higher-quality than the synthetic teas tend to be. [While he's speaking, Robert is already brewing some tea for Vivi. He smiles rather good-naturedly over his shoulder at her.]

I know there isn't much here, but feel free to make yourself at home. Comparitively, anyway.

[You've almost lost her again, Mr. Hastings. |D; Thankfully, she's got a handle on all the words but one.]

Hydroponic...? Well, hydro means water, so... Wait, you grew plants in just water on your world? How does that work?

[Oh, wow, that tea really does smell good already. Vivi's just going to find a place to sit and nibble on her chocolates while she waits.]

[While Robert continues brewing the tea, he explains.] Ah... hydroponic farming works by suspending plants, often with hooks or supports, in a way where their roots can be exposed directly to nutrients and water. It cuts down on space requirements and land usage, so it's very efficient. [He smiles a bit.] Some plants don't fare as well in it, though. But our scientists are working on that.

[Eventually the tea finishes brewing and Robert pours some of the warm liquid into a cup for Vivi. He takes it over to where she's sitting, and places it on the small table in front of her. There's also some sugar and milk if Vivi wants to use either.] Here you are... please enjoy. [He makes himself a cup as well.]

[That tea's getting so much milk and sugar, it's barely tea anymore. |D; Sorry, Robert.]

Oh, I think I get it! It sounds pretty useful... is the hydroponic stuff easy to do? I kinda want to try it. [She'd totally grow some flowers with it. Sipping the tea now; ooh, that is a nice flavor. Well, whatever flavor manages to struggle out from underneath the milk and sugar, that is.]

I suppose it could be fairly easily done here. I haven't actually attempted to set up anything, though... but my father was a hydroponics worker, and I was around him enough that I might be able to do something similar here in Luceti. [Though Robert isn't sure how easy it would be.] However, there is a matter of getting access to the correct nutrients and seeds...

[He looks over at Vivi, noting how her tea looks - it reminds him of Helios, almost, what with how much sugar she put in it.] Are you perhaps wanting to be a farmer or florist yourself, at some point?

[Hey, the tea is good. :| Don't dis the barely-tea.]

Well... maybe? I like flowers, and this hydroponic stuff sounds really cool... I wanna try growing some flowers for mom with it! If you figure out how to do it here, tell me, okay?

[It's okay, Robert's gotten used to it seeing Helios' tea, so it's all good.]

Certainly. I would be glad to show you, Miss Aislinn.

You seem to be on such good terms with your mother. [There's a bit of a wistful tone in Robert's voice. He hasn't seen his parents in a long, long time - and, if he's honest with himself, he doesn't really want to.]
