Considering it is one year since the break-in, I shouldn't complain. But here I go anyway.
Fact 1) Starting a new job is stressful.
My daily routine for work so far is as follows. Drive into the the complex. Go to the security building. Trade in my driver's license for a temporary ID badge. Ask when I might get a permanent one. Recieve withering look from underpaid and overhassled guard. Drive away from the security building and park my car. Grab briefcase (which they gave me and I use to take home my training manuals) and march through the turnstile (scanning my temporary card) and enter into my office and ask my coworkers if any of them have a clue as to what I am supposed to be doing and/or when I might start getting my passwords to use the system.
Most of the stress is in the fact that everyone else is overwhelmed and I'm mostly useless at the moment.
2) Plumbing bites.
Last year I got fed up with frequent clogs in my plumbing and rented a power snake to clean it out. Black smelly water rushed out and stained everything, including me, and no amount of soap could remove it. In order to prevent this from happening again, I thought I would be clever and install a lint trap. Today while the washing machine was going, I heard the unmistakable sound of water splashing coming from downstairs. I run down and find a fountain of water jetting out of the standpipe eight feet into the air.
The lint trap somehow got blown off the end of the drain and went down the standpipe, around the U-bend, and got wedged in the pipe. My carpeted laundry room is such a pleasure in such instances. Ice cold water saturated the carpet.
We went out and bought a Shop-Vac and vaccummed out somewhere in the neighborhood of nine gallons of water out of the carpet. It is still wet, but hopefully we can dry it out now with more conventional methods before mold sets in.
3) My father-in-law gets bad news.
Cancer is back and has metastasized to the other lung.
Cripes. Yeah, I'm out of here for right now.
