Here are the drabbles I did for this week's challenge at OoS. Fantastic challenge: take inspiration from Beatles titles/lyrics. I had fun with this one. Which sounds bad considering none of them are happy, but I had fun choosing the songs!
Between seasons 5 and 6:
The small and shattered group of people had watched, broken hearted, as their friend was lowered into the ground. They had watched her save the world. A lot.
The broken hearted people spent a whole summer trying to live without her, futilely trying to put the past behind them while not forgetting her. They could never forget her, but living without her was proving more and more impossible every day.
And the broken hearted people couldn’t put the past behind them. And that was why those broken hearted people, even after laying her to rest, refused to let her be.
Inspiring lyrics: And when the broken hearted people/Living in the world agree/There will be an answer/Let it be
Early season six:
They chose to make up excuses for why she didn’t look happy to have been brought back - she’d been through a big ordeal, she was tired, she needed to readjust.
They chose not to notice how her life became all about business and the kill, surviving but not living.
They chose not to wonder if they’d done the right thing in bringing her back. They had their friend again and that was enough for them.
They didn’t see her pain; they took the easy road and decided not to open their eyes to it. Living is easy with eyes closed.
Lyrics: “Living is easy with eyes closed” from Strawberry Fields Forever.
Angel during Btvs Season 3:
He remembers what he did to her. She said you hurt her so.
He can’t stand to think of it and doesn’t understand how it doesn’t repulse her to look at him, how she doesn’t recoil from his touch. She almost lost her mind.
She is more cautious nowadays than she used to be, she knows the risks, but the affection in her eyes hasn’t changed. And now she says she knows.
And even after she became more familiar with his demon than he ever wished she would be, she doesn’t turn away from him. You're not the hurting kind.
Lyrics from She Loves You
Season 5, Ats: "A Hole in the World":
Inspecting the sarcophagus, expecting a mummy, Fred almost chuckled thinking how little these weird things seemed odd these days. She wasn’t the same small-town gal she’d once been.
She’d had a choice once to go back home shortly after joining the team, but by then she was already someone else. And it really doesn't matter if I'm wrong; I'm right where I belong… Fred mused, thinking those words were familiar. Ah, yes, it was a song… something about a hole in the world… No, that wasn’t right. It was “Fixing a Hole”. The Beatles. That was it. The sarcophagus opened.
Mini-life update: Started new job today. It wasn't the greatest, but it'll do. The people are nice anyway. And! My happy news (I'm so shallow and easily pleased): in certain lighting - particularly if one squints their eyes and tilts their head - I'm starting to actually look tan! Yay! ... Well, I think it's good progress! :D
Hmm... I've also been working on my
freeversefic ficathon assignment recently, and it's not going well. I think considering my experience with ficathons, I'm starting to think that signing up for them isn't a good idea for me - inspiration is very stubborn under a deadline - but the allure of signups is too great! I'm making myself write at least 100 words a day which is nothing but considering before I gave myself an ultimatum I was writing a literal nothing, it's a vast improvement. Getting there, getting there. It's gonna suck.
