hmmm....

ok. it appears that all the recent snow here actually makes sense. it took a while, i admit, to realize the connection. but with the red sox finally winning the world series, hell has frozen over.

my own frustration with the snow stems from all the shovelling (and the resulting back pain), plus the mess of and possible damage it may be doing to my car (something seems to be wrong with my clutch). my four-legged roommate on the other hand, has her own issues with the snow. it's still high enough that she really can't see out of the windows without standing on her hind legs. this makes her nightly patrols of the grounds difficult, and i'm sure she's just certain that something is out there that shouldn't be.

i spent an hour or so monday talking with my doctor's office, my insurance company, and my physical therapist's billing department, trying to figure out where the problem lies and why there is confusion and i'm being billed erroneously. predictably, everyone blames someone else. i have been assured that the situation will be corrected. in the meantime, however, i've cancelled my next couple therapy days so my current bill isn't added to - you know, just in case.

the good news is that i've started feeling the urge to get outside and work again. this is especially good because my job really sucks if you don't want to do it. the bad news is that it's going to be at least another month before spring-ish weather starts to creep back. there is a pretty good chance that i'll get to do something in mid-march when i am visiting my dad in san fransisco. he's been volunteering to help re-establish the gardens of alcatraz, so i hope to help out for a day as well.

i've just finished repairing a rocking chair i got from my g'ma this summer (another hand built antique that, while it may not look particularly special, is likely to be at least 75 years old and made by some dead relative). i had to replace the seat, tighten things up a bit, and then repaint it. now i just need to find new cushions for it. my next project is some sort of cabinet that came from my g'pa (other side of the family) which is probably at least as old as the chair and bookcase, and in better condition, but a lot more complex to renovate. we'll see how it goes.
