Title: Born to Run
Rating: Teen
Pairing: Liz Shaw / Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart
Prompt: #16 - Stolen Kisses
Word Count: 576
Summary: Despite any differences between them, they always worked best together in the field.

She ran fast, relishing the fact that the heels on her boots weren’t uncomfortably high. The point was she was running as fast as humanly possible even though she wasn’t entirely sure what she was running from. All she knew was the last four people that had been within three feet of the monster had burst into flames. And when it came right down to it Liz wasn’t terribly fond of spontaneous combustion.

As she turned the corner a strong arm grabbed her around the waist and pulled her into one of the abandoned warehouses. There was a quiet ‘oomph’ as the two bodies collided and bumped against a large container. Recognising her saviour immediately, Liz smiled. “I’ve never been so happy to see you in my life,” She admitted as she tried to catch her breath.

“Not sure whether I should take offence at that or not,” The Brigadier muttered, only slightly serious as he let her go and they both took a moment to compose themselves.

“Please tell me you brought backup...” She was cut off as the radio on his belt crackled and came to life.

“This is Greyhound One,” His gruff tone announced into the transmitter as he held it up. “All units commence attack. Remember, do not allow subject within three feet of you. Greyhound One out...”

Almost the instant he returned the radio to his belt Liz moved forward and kissed him hard. It was over before he had a chance to respond - though it wasn’t really the time or place to continue such a thing. When she noticed his raised eyebrow, she smirked and shrugged her shoulders. “I’m not completely immune to the effects of a uniform, Brigadier,” She told him innocently. “Plan B, I assume?”

“Indeed,” He responded with a nod of his head as they both began to move quickly to the other end of the warehouse. They paused at the door, Liz leaning against the wall while she fiddled with her screwdriver as the Brigadier checked the coast was clear. “Before I go...”

She looked up, expecting him to give her another lecture on how she should stay low because of how dangerous the situation was.

His lips brushed against hers briefly and he tried not to laugh at her surprised expression. “Be careful Lizzie,” He whispered as she wrapped her arms around him.

“Once the reactor’s offline it’s all downhill from there,” She said as though it were the simplest thing in the world. It was logic to her. All she had to do was get to the reactor, reverse the energy field and shut it down manually. But she knew he only saw the dangerous side of it. “I’ll be perfectly fine, Alistair. Just promise me you’ll be home for dinner?”

“How else are you going to eat?” He responded with a smirk.

“I’m going to ignore that,” She said as she rolled her eyes and nodded towards the door. “Are you ready?”

“After you, Doctor Shaw,” He offered, making sure to put extra emphasis on her title and earning a well deserved scowl. As she took off out the door the Brigadier found that he had to remind himself not to stare at her legs. It seemed there was a very good reason why most organisations disliked fraternisation in the workplace. Though he had to admit, he liked working with her on a mission again.

Even if it was a one off.
