OK, my hands are still shaking, but at least there is a big-ass grin on my face. Why, you ask? Well, I'm sure some of you don't need to ask...

Oscar nominations were announced this morning! )

i watched the announcements live (um..hi, geek much?) and i was shocked at the number of noms. almost as many as titanic (which i think was a record-tying 13). i was really sad that there were no acting noms b/c i think these actors have been really overlooked. but i hope peter wins it. and i hope they get best picture. they've all worked so very hard on it.

I myself have a hard time choosing who stands out in the movies. Certainly in ROTK, Sean Astin... but wow... the amazing subtleties of Viggo, Ian M, Bernard Shaw, Miranda Otto... so many are wonderful, I think in the voters' minds, they cancel out one another. Too bad the Oscars don't also have a 'best ensemble' category.

PS: Your icon made me laugh out loud. Thanks!

i totally understand; it's so hard to choose! they should really have a best ensemble category. there are so many great films with wonderful ensemble casts out there that just aren't being recognized.

thanks! i love it too. i wish i could take credit for it but it was made by someone else. :)

Wow, you are so lucky. I wish I could've watched them. Our TV sucks right now, though, or I would've found some way to watch them. *sigh*

They do deserve every nomination, and they deserve to win, in every category. I hope they blow everyone else out of the water.

it was kinda funny b/c the program was scheduled for an hour - the actual announcements took 5 minutes. they just stood up, read the names of the top categories and said thank you! so you didn't miss too too much :)

i really hope they win. there were some other v. good films this year but i think they've got it nailed in their respective categories (and i have to go see monster! gah! but no one will go with me b/c it looks depressing! but it looks v. good in terms of acting and storyline. sorry, v. o/t.).

LOL. I agree that they've pretty much got it nailed, especially after the triumph at the Golden Globes. I'm going to be so shocked if they DON'T take Best Picture. :D

I'd love to see Monster. It's only showing at one theater anywhere near me, and that's still almost an hour away. LOL. Plus, I doubt my husband will want to see that, and I don't like going to movies alone, really. :)

if you lived in the area i'd be like "MONSTER BUDDY!" but you seem far away, like most ljers. so no. sadly not.

i think i may go by myself. i've gone alone to a few movies before and i'm secure enough to do it now - takes a while to get that way though :)

Yeah, I might do it just to get out of the house. :D
