Twelve

I have to admit, this was the one name where I was going “nah, it won’t be him" for the last few days. How wrong I am!

I was mostly basing this on the fact that usually the front runner in gossip and the bookies usually *isn’t* the person who gets it. Remember Paterson Joseph for Eleven?

So far, I’m still adjusting to the idea. I’ve got no idea what kind of Doctor he’ll play so speculating seems a bit pointless right now (not that I expect anyone will stop speculating, but I’m taking all discussion with a pinch of salt) but so far I’ve been won over by every actor who has played the Doctor and I don’t expect this to be different.

Yes, even Colin Baker. I can actually find positive things to say about him.

Peter Capaldi definitely isn’t someone I would have pictured for the role. I hadn’t really held out any hope they’d go for someone very much older than Matt Smith. There had been a big hope that this time we’d get a black Doctor or a woman, so there’s a part of me that’s disappointed about that, but I’m going to wait and see what Capaldi does and how he plays the character.

Honestly, this is the one fandom where I more or less give everything a pass and just roll around in my love for what I see in the screen. It’s my OTP fandom, the one I’ve loved since I was a tiny child hiding behind my Dad because Vengeance on Varos is fucking terrifying when you’re a kid. It’s the show I made my parents record when it clashed with my fifth birthday party (Five Doctors, you made me ask my parents work out how to use our new video machine) and I’ve honestly never been rational about Doctor Who.

It’s the show that’s giving me an entire shiny beautiful new episode airing on my birthday that will celebrate the history of my beloved show.

So while Peter Capaldi wasn’t on my list of Actors I Want, I’m already settling into the idea and by the time he steps out of the TARDIS for the first time I’ll probably be squeeing like a fangirl.
