This weekend I managed, in one simple move, to break a toe and dislocate a shoulder. Well done me, my reign as clutz queen continues :-D
Thankfully my shoulder popped back in pretty quickly and my toe is pretty swollen and sore but not actively deformed (one of my toes is smushed into a funny shape after a previous epic break) so I didn't end up in the ER. I've broken enough toes by now to know that hospitals will just look at me funny if I ask them to do anything about it, so I'm trying to rest that foot and not poke it too much.
Er, it's probably bad when you've broken enough toes to be familiar with the routine. Right? You'd think I'd learn. Problem is that it was hot so I wasn't wearing slippers and even though I *know* that tends to lead to broken toes, I still keeping doing it. Well, I probably won't do it again for a couple of years. I'm dutifully going to be wearing slippers at all times no matter how hot is is until the humiliation and pain from this little jaunt subside.
The last three weeks have passed by in a haze of work and Tour de France viewing. Now the Tour is over and it's occurring to me that I've got five and a half weeks until rough drafts are due for Marvel Big Bang. Eep!
On the one hand, I'm about halfway there on the rough draft and now I have all my evenings free again so it shouldn't be an impossible goal.
On the other hand, halfway there is around 25k words so I've probably got that much again to write including some fairly major action scenes and the final big denouement and that thought is intimidating me a wee bit. As is the idea that I'm writing something close to a novel here.
And the rough draft is due at the end of August which keeps seeming like ages away but it really really isn't.
I'd say that I'm going to knuckle down and only write MBB fic for the next five weeks but that's a total lie. I'll be mostly writing MBB fic and prodding at ridiculous crackfic whenever I start to feel overwhelmed by getting all my plotlines to funnel down to the big finale. After all, this time last year I ended up writing fics about the Avengers PR manager and a Dirty Dancing fusion AU while I was flailing at my MBB fic. Frankly, the crackfic I've been playing with this time almost looks sensible compared to last year's.
