Yuletide glee
I have stood on the outskirts of yuletide for years, watching as everyone panicks in the run-up to the deadline and then watching everyone go into orgasms when the archive opens. I've never really understood why it was so exciting and I hadn't really delved too far into the archive.
What was I thinking?
I need people to point out all the reasons why I can't call in sick to work next week and just read everything on there. It's brilliant. There is fic for fandoms that I had no idea were fandoms. There is Bend It Like Beckham fanfic that's actually really good and two (two!!) of the fics were written for me. The only reason that Merlin hasn't devoured the archive is because it was so new when sign-ups happened. As it is, there are a number of fics that look like they'll be great and several of them are even fairly long.
It's like having a treasure chest suddenly open and produce all the fic you've ever wanted. It also seems to be the challenge that people really work for, because the overall quality in there is amazing. People really do pull out all the stops to write the best thing they can for Yuletide. A part of me wonders whether it's because the challenges you get are more creative - and less predictable - than other ficathons.
All I did last night was peak in at the summaries for a few of the fandoms (well, I might have read a couple of shorter fics) and get excited. I must have bookmarked ten rec posts so that I can check out things that I might otherwise skip and all I want to do is read it all.
Please, someone, remind me that pulling a sickie for fanfic is a bad, bad, bad, bad, bad thing to do.
