In which there are arrivals made and departures prepared. Also, this is weird after having now marathoned The Wire.
Because Alicia is basically having Maury Levy's job, and was that Bodie as one of Lamont Bishop's employes? Well, technically I suppose one should say Alicia is sharing Maury Levy's job with Grand Nagus Zek, aka Wallace Shawn. Also, I'm really less and less able to see how else this season should end but with Alicia leaving L & G because as opposed to the last episode featuring Bishop, which assumed amnesia on the fate of Mr. Bishop's late wife (aka the one killed when she wanted to divorce him), the mother of the son he's so devoted to, this one not only mentions the divorce business but presents Alicia constantly with evidence that Bishop as a client not only means unethical criminal methods like witness intimidation but also makes a mockery of her own legal skills and efforts to represent him by doing what a lawyer is actually supposed to. The last scene where she has found a method to get his sister's testimony declared invalid only to hear Judy Bishop, too, was scared out of testifying just underlines that, but the by far most powerful scene was her law school aquaintance gone state's attorney reporting how Liz' son was harrassed and then angrily asking Alicia when she sould her soul. Mind you, not just Alicia but everyone at L&G knew that the Grand Nagus Charles Lester was doing, they just didn't want to say it out loud. But Alicia is the main character, and given that threats to children go directly to where she lives, I'm not sure who she can live with herself continuing with representing Bishop. (Also, that was an expert hit by Charles Lester, mentioning Sweeney and the fact another woman died after Alicia started to represent him.)
Meanwhile, Cary is actually sounding out clients to prepare for a departure in order to found his own firm, Kalinda covers for him, and though the episode is a bit coy about it, it looks like Cary got finally lucky. The first is the least surprising part of this, because Diane and Will really have it coming given their behaviour towards the Associates and lately, and the way the bait and switch with the partnerships were handled. Though I must admit that in this episode, we got a sympathetic glimpse at them again, with Diane's understandable fear of making the same mistakes and overstretching themselves if they expand. Unfortunately she doesn't seem to realise it's also a mistake to treat your subordinates with the divide and rule principle too long.
The new investigator is sympathetic, and has that Good Wife trademark of quirkiness and competence. Still, I wonder whether her existence didn't contribute to Kalinda's state of mind vis a vis Cary (both that she covered for him towards Will and Diane, and maybe also that she said yes); because Cary's new firm is going to need an investigator, too. Otoh presumably he wouldn't be able to pay her anything near the same salary, and one of his arguments to get her to say yes was that they wouldn't be working together for much longer. So who knows? I'm still hoping for Alicia to quit L & G and ask Cary whether she can be his partner, and for Kalinda to go with them. It would be good for the soul, you know.
