Yes, I saw Clarke Peters play Othello and Dominic West Iago in Sheffield in 2011.

PS Bunk Moreland was played by Wendell Pierce.

Well, I flew to New York to see a play by my grandfather in October, so that's one choice I wish more British theatres would make!

Oh yes, such a season for ripping your heart out and stomping it to bits. And especially so because for each of the kids an adult tries to save them and fails - Cutty's mistake being far more forgivable than Carver's as there was no way he could have known how triggering his words were to Michael - except for Colvin, who notably steps outside the system to save Namond, speaking to his father as one soldier to another ( ... )

And then there's my favourite Lester scene of all time where he figures out exactly where Marlo's been hiding the bodies.

That scene exactly made me think of your "genius detective" comment!

Good to know there is some hope in s5.

I've been waiting for your S4 review! It's by far my favourite season of the Wire and the one I've returned to rewatch the most. S4 inspired me to make this video tribute to the Corner Boy characters and the adults who try to help them. I think it was my way of recovering.

http://falafel-musings.livejournal.com/43785.html

The story of the four boys destroyed me enough on their own without the tragic S4 stories of Bodie and Bubbles. Then there's the reference to the famous chess scene with Dee and Wallace. We were told from the start that all the pawns in this game are doomed but it doesn't make it hurt any less.

Can I watch your vid without getting spoiled for s5? I'd love ot see it, but I also don't want to be spoiled for the very last season of the show.

We were told from the start that all the pawns in this game are doomed but it doesn't make it hurt any less.

No, it really doesn't. The tragedy of it all kills me.

Yes, you can watch the video without being spoiled (it's S4 clips only) but avoid looking in the comments section as there may be S5 spoilers in some of the feedback.

Ah, season four. A great season but it shattered my heart into tiny pieces because . . . children. I think the point when I almost had to stop watching for a bit too was when the police officer started to break that kid's fingers and I could hear them snap. I don't even have words for what that did to me ( ... )

There's another character who unexpectedly escapes the game, but that won't be revealed until midway through the last season.

He made me mad too for sleeping with Spider's mom.

Not me. He had no idea of the impact this would have on Spider, and once he was told, stopped. He did his best to explain both to Spider and to the other kids in the gym. I'm not saying Cutty was perfect, but he's not a telepath, had no pedagogic training, and was learning by doing as much as the kids were when he started the gym. So I think it's really not fair to blame him for what was consentual sex between adults.

WeeBay's fish, I fear, are doomed, now they're left with his wife as sole caretaker. :) Yes, that ongoing gag was one of the lighter moments and I loved it too.

I thought it was a nice touch at the end that the nurse who had been so caustic to Cutty (and who got it all wrong) was with him at the gym, after Bunny set her straight (in the nicest possible Bunny Colvin way). But the reversal of Michael's and Namond's trajectories was the thing that struck me so forcibly about this season ( ... )
