Hm...Eagle of the Ninth trailer looks...interesting. There are a couple of things that are straight from the book and others that I don't recognise. The guy playing Marcus is not my mental image of him (and I'm trying not to notice the accent), but Donald Sutherland as his uncle and Jamie Bell as Esca are closer to how I imagined them. Good to see a trailer for what looks like a pretty epic film, even if it does deviate from the book a bit.
Well, I suppose making the Romans American has a certain logic. And I think Marcus fits my mental image more than Esca does; probably something to do with the hair. I imagined Esca with longer hair, even as a slave.

I was thinking that, but then I thought one of the Britons spoke with an American accent too. I suppose if he's one of the legionaries that deserted that could still work.
...I just saw that the Wiki entry quotes the director on making the Romans = Americans a deliberate choice, as a comment on contemporary politics. *coughdoyouthinktheAmericanswillnotice?cough*
Well, Peter Ustinov once made a case for Romans = Americans. :) Being German myself, I really don't care which nationality the actors playing Romans have. They don't speak on screen Latin anyway. *g* Little Jamie Bell has grown up, though, hasn't he? And it should give you a lot of icon material....
