Veronica Mars begun

A bunch of episodes from the fabled Veronica Mars arrived, thanks to monanotlisa and her sister, and I've watched the first four while stealing time from the post-60th birthday cleanup at home. (Said 60th birthday, of my father, went splendidly, but we had a whole lot of people around, so I was running around pretty much all of yesterday and yesterday night ( Read more... )

Yay, Veronica Mars!

Rob Thomas, the creator of the show, has plotted out another season-long mystery for S2. Whether it would be as personally resonant as Lilly's murder and Veronica's own rape remains to be seen. As a fan of the show, I think it'd be damn near impossible to do better on S1, but the show has surprised me before, so we shall see.

The names are very deliberate on the show. There is even an "Abel" to the "Kane".

Since you're a fan of Alias and of Jack Bristow in particular, I think you'll end up digging the dynamic between Keith and Veronica in particular, which ended up supplanting Jack & Sydney relationship as my favorite father & daughter relationship on TV ever by mid-season. Oh! And avoid fan sites and such as they are likely to spoil you.

you'll notice a lot of name puns in the series -- Mars/Neptune is just the start. (The Kanes later encounter an Abel, for example). I think the blatancy of this makes it forgivable :).

incidentally, here's Lily's dad in happier days (he was a series lead on Homicide: Life on the Street one of my first fandom-obsessions). looking frighteningly young.

Good lord. He does look like a child.

Abel as in Abel Koontz? Yes, I noticed.*g*

ah yes, Kyle Secor was the official downy innocent of Homicide before he went off the deep end in late seasons (but then, so did the show).

he's been in a lot of crap and cancelled shows since then, but I think with VM he's been reinvented as a "mature" actor.

I still haven't seen most of VM because the local station pre-empted it all the time, but I'm hoping to catch up with the DVDs soon.

Belated happy 60th birthday to your dad!

yahtzee63 has started a new Alias epic, set immediately after season 4.

One day I'm actually going to catch up with Alias enough to read all this fic! The idea of yahtzee fic is terribly tempting but I must resist until we've finished season 4 (only 2 eps to go).

Once you've seen those two episodes, I could give you a list, you know.*g*

I might take you up on that! We should finish it next week before we go on holiday. I've enjoyed Season 4 much more than Season 3 and even the Rambaldi stuff is starting to make the kind of sense that doesn't really, but might if you squint at it for long enough *g*.

Season 4 might just end up as my overall favourite. The only reason why I hesitate is that season 2 has SpyMommy throughout, but otherwise, I love 4 to bits.
