Veronica Mars begun

A bunch of episodes from the fabled Veronica Mars arrived, thanks to monanotlisa and her sister, and I've watched the first four while stealing time from the post-60th birthday cleanup at home. (Said 60th birthday, of my father, went splendidly, but we had a whole lot of people around, so I was running around pretty much all of yesterday and yesterday night.) First impressions: me likes. Veronica herself most of all. Structurally, though, I wonder whether this show will go the way of Twin Peaks. Meaning that once the Who Killed Laura Palmer? mystery of TP was cleared up, the show struggled (not aided by David Lynch being MIA until the finale) to find a new momentum, and Windom Earle didn't quite cut it. If Veronica Mars makes Who Killed Lily Kane? so central, there could be a smilar trap door waiting. Though so far, the cases of the week Veronica solves (which wasn't something really on the menu in Twin Peaks) have been interesting on their own merit while the ongoing Lily story smoulders in the background.

Can't help but notice some similarities between the Lily/Veronica and Laura/Donna relationships, which automatically makes me suspect Old Man Kane of being Leland Palmer. (Clearly, Veronica's father has watched Twin Peaks as well.*g*) Mrs. Kane, otoh, seems to have wandered in from Manchurian Candidate, new version? so does that make Duncan Liev Schreiber? She was rather insistent on those anti depressants...

Also: Using the name "Kane" is a bit cheeky, Mr. Thomas. We'll see.

In other news, yahtzee63 has started a new Alias epic, set immediately after season 4. It's probably good for me that I now have to return to the cleanup operations, or else I would stare on the screen for hours, trying to conjur up the next part. Works-in-progress are mean.
