Peugeot Projekt post#3: butt luxury

Okay, Mershon donated a seat to the Peugeot Projekt bike since he recently upgraded to a fancier model. Usually these days, the mechanism that adjusts the angle of your seat, and clamps it tight, is built into the seatpost, but the Peugeot was built before that era, so it uses an old school underseat clamp. These things are kind of a pain in the butt to install because the parts that ride againt the inner edges of the rails are held just a little further apart than they need to be by the actual clamp in the middle. I've replaced a zillion of these back in my bike shop days, so I know a few tricks to make it less of a wrench throwing heavy cussing kind of deal. The only real problem I had was that there are only standard size wrenches at my hut, and the nuts are 13mm metric...so I had to use a pair of (ugh) pliers to do the whole job. Using pliers should ONLY be done in an emergency...they scar up the nuts and are usually the easiest way to end up stripping them. Luck was on my side though, and I got it done with no damage.

Here are some comparison pics between the new seat and the old from a few different angles. It's awesome that something so simple as replacing the seat can change the whole character of the bike. It's starting to look very punk, very mean.
