Final Outline

It was the perfect plan, something simple yet so flawless when executed, a masterpiece created indeed by a master himself. The details were meticulously thought out over and over again, the sequence of events lined up in its most logical sense. Like a train of dominoes carefully set up that would topple over the other in a smooth motion, all it needed was a trigger. How could it fail? It was too simple, to straight-forward that its simplicity itself was the fail-safe. Not even fate or the power of the cosmos could influence it to a halt. Not when he himself was the one controlling fate.

The prelude, as he liked to call it.

The season would be late spring, early summer perhaps. It was neither too hot nor too cloudy. The breeze would be cool but with the subtle hint of warmth. The setting would be a tree, not to tall or difficult to climb. And the main character? A tiny bird that had fallen out of its nest.

Once everything would be in place, she whose smile rivaled that of the sun would come, a friend by her side. Her gaze would surely land on the bird and her familiar kindness and compassion would compel her to bend over and take the creature in her hands. He was very confident that she would. He knew her love for all things living. And how this love would make her do irrational things despite her klutziness. She might even climb the tree, would insist to return the bird to its nest, reassuring her friend below. She was fine, she would say. She would not take long, she would add.

The laws of nature would then dictate that she had to fall at some point. Gravity, her grip on the branch, the sudden gust of wind… And that precise moment her hand would slip, the final character in the act would appear, pass under the tree with an excuse that could be thought of later. Anything would do.

And the rest would be, as one would say, history.

“I thought an angel had fallen from the sky.”

Act two would then commence ten years later.

Prompt: 13 - Façade
Title: Eggshell
Fandom: Card Captor Sakura
Characters: Clow Reed, Yue
Rating: G
Summary: He was the closest to him, of all creatures. Yet not once could he understand him.
Disclaimer: CCS and all of its characters belong to CLAMP.
Notes: I think I was being emo when I wrote this. Not surprisingly, it turned out this way. How depressing really. And who would've thought that CCS is a happy series. Why eggshell? Well, eggshells are really white, right? Pristine. And it covers and protects what is inside. And despite the fact that it breaks easily, there's still a thin membrane that holds everything together. It's kinda like the composure of one person, keeping himself together in spite of the external pressures.

Eggshell

Clow Reed was not one to be so easily figured out. That, Yue was certain of. Beneath the rather youthful appearance were years and years worth of wisdom of the world. Betrayed by those blue eyes were age-old experiences. Behind the benign smile wee layers upon layers of mixed emotions. All of them were perfectly concealed by a mask, hidden away from prying eyes, hidden away even from his own children. He would keep it all to himself, the mask not once breaking. Never, at least, in front of Yue and Keroberos.

“The Mokonas are insisting that we visit them. They mentioned how much they miss you and Keroberos.”

Yue would’ve flatly retorted and vehemently refused had he not briefly glimpsed the weary, almost longing curve on his Master’s lips. A crack on Clow Reed’s impeccable mask. But it lasted for a moment, only a moment, before the mask mended itself again, every trace of age and exhaustion erased as if it was never there. For that moment, he realized and dismissed the reality of his Master’s mortality and life.

“You would need to bring sake for the Witch.” He had never really gotten along with Yuuko.

Clow merely chuckled and remarked nothing about his sourness, only agreed to his suggestion. He then turned his gaze to the window, the orange rays of the setting sun dappled by the foliage of the summer trees.

“Autumn is almost here. And after fall would be winter, the end of another year.”

Little did Yue know that those words would soon haunt him.
