Prompt: 06h00 ; Tenacity and perseverance, with something you’ve been putting off
Title: Firewall
Fandom: D.Gray-man
Characters: Kanda Yuu, Li Lenalee, Komui
Rating: G
Summary: Robots in the morning, missions in the afternoon and death threats in the evening, Kanda now realizes why someone like Lenalee never had a boyfriend.
Disclaimer: D.Gray-man and all of its characters belong to Katsura Hoshino.
Notes: My humor is odd. I know. It's the result of my overloaded, underpaid schedule in school. Komui is the firewall here, not Kanda. You know, 'inspects network traffic passing through it, and denies or permits passage based on a set of rules.' Thank you, Wikipedia, for that wonderful definition!

Ever since that day more than a week ago, Kanda was more than certain that there were at least four people in the entire Black Order who were out to get him. Five, if he included General Cross Marian. But as far as he could tell, he hadn’t seen Maria around the HQ for a while; the General most likely hadn’t gotten wind of the news just yet. Still, General Marian aside, he was unsure how many more there were. And their attempts on his life and sanity were getting more and more distracting, not to mention annoying. From the giant robot that had become a part of his daily routine trying to avoid to the death threats coming in like a storm from China, it was taking all of his energy not to reduce the European HQ to dust and rubble.
And truth be told, he was holding up quite well, despite the apparent decimation in the tower and the relentless stream of missions that were deliberately being assigned to him.
“My brother is really making you work hard, Kanda. Are you sure you’re okay?” Lenalee was peering at him concernedly for the last five minutes as they walked down to the underground waterways.
From the corner of his eyes, he could see aforementioned giant robot trying - and failing - to covertly follow them along with a few other uninvited sneaks. It was barely 6 in the morning and they had already begun with their mission of ruining his day. Perfect. And judging from the expression on Lenalee’s face, she too was aware of them; she simply didn’t want any chaos so early in the morning.
“I’m fine,” he replied impassively, glancing at her momentarily. “You should worry about yourself more than me, with the lunatics in this place.”
A sudden and rather familiar shout from behind made them stop momentarily in their tracks, sounding like something protesting and being strangled to keep it down. After glancing at each other, they both pointedly ignored it, knowing what it was.
“Well, don’t worry about me. I can handle them perfectly fine.” Her smile was reassuring, something he could trust. “And I’ll speak to my brother about giving you a lot of work. Honestly, it’s overkill!”
“No need for that.” Kanda had already accepted the fact that Komui was purposely keeping him out of the HQ. “I’m getting away from all the stupidity anyway.”
Lenalee, however, just smiled sheepishly at him. “Still, it would be nice if you could stay a little longer.”
Not once did Komui or anyone in particular interrupt their peaceful descent to the waterways where a small boat was waiting for him. At least, not until Lenalee gave him a light kiss on the cheek, something that he himself did not expect. After that, all hell broke loose.
The Supervisor storming noisily down the stone staircase in his new contraption, howling and crying for his dear Lenalee. The Science Department, which always seemed that they have time on their hands, closely following their Chief. A few other people he didn’t care to know. And as usual, Lavi and the bean sprout who were both in league with Komui against him. All of them were loudly and violently protesting against the progress in his relationship with the Chinese female.
Not that they all mattered to him anyway since he barely gave them a scathing glance and dismissed their actions with a derisive sigh as he got on the boat. Lenalee had already spoken to him about getting along with Komui. But as long as the sister-complex idiot was acting like, well, an idiot, he would-
“…constipated and socially inept and evil and bad-tempered like Kanda? Not like me, your dear brother who is sweet and loving and-”
A resounding crash echoed throughout the tower as Komui and his robot fell apart so cleanly, one part thudding heavily against concrete while the other splashing into the dark waters. Kanda, Mugen sliding back in its sheath, landed lightly beside Lenalee, pressing a kiss on top of her head.
“It was pissing me off already,” he muttered, obviously pleased with his handiwork, as Lenalee grinned up at him.
“I couldn’t have done better myself.”
