Prompt: 07h00 ; Hope, improved insight and perspective
Title: Torpedo
Fandom: D.Gray-man
Characters: Kanda Yuu, Li Lenalee, Lavi
Rating: G
Summary: In every rule, there's always an exception.
Disclaimer: D.Gray-man and all of its characters belong to Katsura Hoshino.
Notes: My sense of humor is off really. I think it's because of the noxious fumes of the disinfectant and the floor polish of the hospital. Uh, the title. The title is actually an inside joke in our country. 'Torpe' is a type of guy who wouldn't confess to the girl he likes because of the fear of rejection [hence, is often considered a wuss and is constantly the subject of teasing].
Torpedo
He had heard it a million times on the grapevine, had witnessed it a number of times on different occasions and at different locations, and thankfully had never lived through it just yet but every time, every single time, he would hear or witness it, he only had one word in mind. Just one.
Evil.
“Amazing. He’s the third guy Lenalee rejected today.”
Kanda said nothing in response to Lavi’s remark from across him, merely gazed mildly at the retreating back of the male member of the Science Department, catching a glimpse of that dismal look on his face. It almost seemed like he was ready to die any moment. Not to mention that Supervisor Li would be most likely waiting for him somewhere in the Order, ready to maim him for even asking the Supervisor’s Assistant out. His gaze then flickered to the girl in question, the reason for the poor male’s depression and early death, who had picked up her empty lunch tray and started towards their direction, an obvious defeated sigh leaving her lips.
It really was amazing, Lenalee’s rejection, and also a very cruel fate.
“Li Lenalee, breaking men’s hearts since seven in the morning,” Lavi commented casually, his usual grin plastered on his face, as the female Exorcist passed by their table.
The aforementioned girl looked startled at the redhead’s words but she smiled all the same, feigning an exaggerated shocked expression. “You saw that too?”
She - or rather, her type - was the reason why he found females troublesome, simply an existence to torture and humiliate the opposite sex. She was the reason why he would never venture towards that obviously dangerous direction called a ‘relationship’. Never.
“So, everyone who asks you out gets the same response, is that it?”
Kanda glanced furtively at Lavi over the rim of his cup as he took a drink of his tea, an eyebrow raised in disbelief. It would seem that the Junior Bookman would not let Lenalee go without throwing a few questions at her direction. Then, he glanced at Lenalee, who momentarily looked thoughtful.
“Well… In a way, yes,” she replied slowly then shook her head quickly in a dismissive manner. “But that’s only because I know, and I'm sure you guys know, how my brother would react if he found out that I was dating someone.”
Kanda rolled his eyes inwardly. Even if she was turning down her suitors, Komui was still going after them. There wasn’t much of a difference really. He did wonder how the man would react if his sister had suddenly announced that she was going to get married. With Komui’s sister-complex, there was even a high possibility that Lenalee would remain single for a very long time.
“If Yuu were to ask you out, would you reject him?”
The Japanese male did a double take on that question, courtesy, of course, by Lavi, that grin on his face calculating and meaningful. Kanda could only glare at him over the table, his hand twitching over the hilt of Mugen, not wanting to be scolded by Lenalee again for pulling out his sword. But the Bookman-to-be would seriously, seriously reap what he had sown. He would make sure of it. However, much to his displeasure and morbid curiosity, Lenalee was not answering. Instead, she was just standing there, frowning thoughtfully as she gazed at the ceiling.
Kanda growled quietly at Lavi, fighting the urge to wipe that smirk off his face. “You don’t have to answer him, Lena-”
“No.”
The two looked at the female, taken aback by her sudden reply, and Lenalee shook her head again, smiling widely. “No, I won’t reject Kanda.”
It took him a full minute to digest her words and another minute to realize that Lavi was looking more and more amused with each passing second, sneaking furtive smirks at his direction whenever the Chinese girl was not looking. Kanda gritted his teeth in exasperation.
“Oh?” Lavi asked evenly, pretending to be nonchalant. “And why is that?”
“Well…” Lenalee paused again and Kanda stared at her through his bangs, for once, curious of her reply. After a moment, which almost seemed like a long time, she let out an amused giggle, waving a hand.
“That’s because Kanda can easily fend off Komurin so there won’t be any problems whatsoever with my brother. But of course, it’s not like Kanda would ask me out, right? I’m too plain obviously. I mean, if he were to like someone, she would have to be very interesting to keep him amused.”
The moment Lenalee had left though, the moment she had stepped out of the mess hall and out of hearing range, Lavi snorted out loud, clutching his stomach from the pain of suppressing his laughter for too long. That nerve above Kanda’s eyebrow twitched, his free hand clenching around Mugen. Sensing the murderous aura surrounding the Japanese Exorcist though, Lavi calmed down after a few moments, albeit still snickering every now and then, his wide, wide grin still plastered knowingly on his face. Kanda growled at him.
“At least, you have the reassurance that she won’t reject you, right?”
