Who: Yamashita Tomohisa, Horikita Maki When/Where: Day 2 around 7pm Rating: PG Warning: None yet Summary: Maki and Yamapi go on a date. Things don't necessarily go as planned.
"Ahaha...Horikita-san is funny." Tomohisa grinned, but he was relieved when she made light of it. Looking around, he had to agree with her. It was a very lovely restaurant.
Offering his arm, he grinned. "After you, my lady!"
Taking it, she smiled flirtatiously back at him. "Why thank you, kind sir." They were greeted by the hostess, who seated them at a secluded table before taking her leave. Maki blushed a little at just how private their little spot was. Hidden behind a gauzy curtain, it would be very difficult for other patrons to see them at all.
Carefully opening up the menu, Maki soon found herself stealing glances at him as often as she felt was appropriate. What was it about him that was making her act like this?! It was like she was a love-struck teenager again or something!
"Everything sounds so good...I hardly know what to get..."
She shifted her legs a bit, and managed to knock her knees against the table. "Ow!" Maki grimaced slightly. For someone who could be intangible, she always had a lot of little bruises. "Sorry...I can be such a klutz sometimes..."
"Don't be sorry." Actually, Tomohisa found it rather cute. Then again, he found her extremely cute and she couldn't do anything that would change that in his eyes. "Are you all right? You're not hurt are you?"
"No, no...I'm fine...really." She smiled at him to try and reassure him even as she rubbed her knee under the table. The waitress came to take their order, and after that, they found themselves in a moment of awkward, yet comfortable silence.
"So...Yamashita-san still hasn't told me how it is that he ended up here in Korea."
For a guy who seemed to miss Japan and Japanese food as much as he did, Maki was curious as to why he was here in Seoul.
He knew he could must make up something, but he didn't want to. Tomohisa hated lying, and if they hit it off, then he didn't want his lie coming back to bite him in the ass.
"Personal issues. There were some things I didn't want to deal with back home any longer, so I came here for a fresh start. I'm glad I did; I might not have met you otherwise." True, every word of it.
Oops...wrong topic to touch on. "Ah...gomen ne, Yamashita-san. Sorry I touched on something unpleasant. But...I guess I'm glad that we ended up meeting as well. I wound up in Seoul mostly for work reasons, myself. I had been working in Tokyo as a model before, but work dried up after a while. I thought I'd take a shot at things here before I gave up on modeling completely." She smiled and shrugged lightly. She couldn't say that she'd made it big in Seoul, but she'd managed to get steady work in a few women's fashion magazines.
At that, their food arrived, and put a temporary end to their conversation. "Uwah! The food looks so good! You picked a really great place, Yamashita-san!"
"No, no. Don't worry about it, it's fine." Tomohisa waved her concern aside. After all, she didn't know and he didn't blame her at all. "You model? That's right, you told me that before. You should tell me for what magazines so I can go pick them up."
With the arrival of the food, conversation temporarily halted as they dug into their meal. He'd been wanting to come here, and he was glad he'd picked this place for their first date. Everything was perfect so far.
He wha~? He wanted to buy the magazines she was in? Ack! How sweet, and yet how embarrassing for her at the same time. She could feel her cheeks going pink, and for a moment she felt herself phasing, floating a hair above her chair before becoming solid once again. Shoot! This was getting dangerous; she had better keep herself from getting too distracted by the young man sitting with her. "You really don't need to do that, Yamashita-san...um...you might get funny looks if you buy those magazines. I always get copies, so I can show them to you another time, if you like?" Because that would mean that they'd see each other again, which was something Maki was definitely hoping for
( ... )
"But Horikita-san is so beautiful when she laughs." Tomohisa couldn't help but join her, laughing along with her. Her laughter was so infectious, you just could not join in. He was surprised at himself, actually.
How long had it been since he'd been this social with anyone? Even when he was working at the Japanese school, he'd rarely interacted with the other teachers and kept mostly to himself. But it wasn't this way, not with her at least. She made him feel alive, and reminded him of what it had been like, before his life had changed.
"And now Yamashita-san is teasing me entirely too much." Maki's cheeks flushed at his compliment, and she found herself unable to meet his eyes. What was wrong with her?! When she was at a photo shoot, she didn't get this way when stylists, or photographers told her she was beautiful. When she looked up again, he was still smiling at her, and that smile captivated her completely. She found herself gazing at him, unable to speak a word.
Oh god...he's going to think I'm a freak...I'm totally staring...
Her thoughts shook her her out of her daze. "I...uh...I was just thinking that Yamashita-san has such an incredible smile..." Her voice trailed off as she became embarrassed by her own admission. When the waitress came to collect their plates, Maki excused herself and head to the washrooms. She needed a moment to collect herself after that embarrassing exchange.
Pout. Just when he was about to reply to her comment, she disappears. Tomohisa sighed, resting his chin on his hand as he watched her head for the washrooms. Life just wasn't fair, now was it?
A beautiful woman tells him he has a nice smile and then she disappears. Was it something he'd done to make her run away? He hoped not; he really really liked her.
While in the washroom, Maki took a few deep breaths to calm herself. "Okay...hopefully Yamashita-san doesn't think I'm crazy or something...gosh...I could I say such things! Well, even if it is true; he does have an incredible smile..." Maki rambled to herself in Japanese, ignoring the looks of some of the other women in the washroom.
Returning to the table, Maki felt as if she'd recovered some of her usual poise. That was until she saw him there, staring into space with a slight pout on his lips. Those kissable looking lips. Oh shoot! Where was her brain going?!
"Um...Sorry about that, Yamashita-san...I-is everything okay? You had a...a look on your face."
...Maki...what the heck was that?! A look on your face?! Of course he has a look on his face! He has one at all times!! DUH!!
Maki took her seat again, her knees shaking a little as she realized she was making a fool of herself again.
"Not that your face doesn't always have a look...I mean...um...eep!" Maki covered her mouth to stop it from running away from her.
"You're cute when you're like this, you know." Tomohisa grinned before coming to his feet and holding out his hand to her. "Shall we go to the movies now?" He placed some money on the table for their meal and waited for her to take his hand before leading the way out of the restaurant.
Huh? After all her blunders, he thought she was cute? He still wanted to go to the movies with her?! Maki wondered what miracle this was. Smiling sheepishly back at him, she slowly extended her hand to take the one he was offering. His hand was a good deal larger than hers, and it felt warm and strong compared to her own, small and cool. Ever so slowly, her fingers tightened around his, and she rose from her seat, still marveling at the sensation of holding his hand.
"That sounds like a great idea. Thank you very much for dinner. You didn't even give me a chance to pay my fair share!"
Tomohisa looked scandalized. "Why would I make you pay? I asked you out. There's no way I'd make you pay for anything during out date." Kissing the back of her hand, he tucked in his arm and led the way out of the restaurant.
Walking down the street, it felt nice to be out and with a lovely young lady. "So, what was it you were saying about smile again?"
If he thought it felt nice, he wasn't the only one. Maki found herself pulling closer against him as they negotiated the crowded streets, and found his presence to be both reassuring and exciting. She smiled at him with a look of mock reproach on her face. "You're going to make me repeat myself?" She smiled at him to tell him that she was just teasing. Taking a breath, Maki plunged ahead, scared that she may not work up the nerve again. "I was saying that I thought your smile was incredible." She giggled shyly before looking away, resting her head against his shoulder as they walked.
With the neon lights winking back at them, Maki couldn't help but muse what a perfect evening tonight had been so far.
Offering his arm, he grinned. "After you, my lady!"
