Whither Chewy Cod?

Apr 18, 2007 09:42

Last night I fixed cod in lemon and butter. Of the four pieces, two came out...chewy. Chewy cod? The other two were flaky and exactly the right texture. Huh. I love fish and seafood, and miss it a lot, being so far from the ocean. Ya know, I'm not even sure people can/should eat fish caught in Lake Michigan, although I'm sure people do.

I'm re-reading A Taste of Ancient Rome, and finding that I want to write a Roman Feast ritual. Not for any specific high day, but just to have something the Grove can do together. We tend to be a bit Celtocentric sometimes, and I'd love for us to try some different hearth cultures once in a while. I'm not sure how well it'd go over with Babs, but I think J&R would enjoy it. The recipes in the book make use of garum  (rather ripe fish sauce) on practically everything (which, while authentic, is also a bit stomach churning, imho), but the more middle-eastern influenced recipes seem like they'd be fun to try. I love Roman and Greek ritual -- pageantry mixed with sincerity -- to me that is what rituals should be.

I can't believe the difficulty I'm having putting together my own business website. Every design iteration seems great at the time, then I come back to it a day later and think it's utter crap. I told drubear that I have to stick with the one I have now out of sheer panic - the OL ad will be visible in a few days, and there has to be something there for people to see. I'm rarely happy with my own work.
