♫ Gravity - Sara Bareilles
"You don't even listen to me." Baekhyun said in a hushed tone. Chanyeol rolled his eyes and went to sit next to Kyungsoo, leaving a sighing Baekhyun at the back seat.
It's another of those fights. Maybe. Baekhyun closed his eyes and heaved a deep sigh. Does it always have to be like this when they fight? He'll ignore him and be left to sit by himself, walk by himself, cry by himself.
It's not supposed to be a big deal. But Chanyeol took the wrong idea and now they're drifting apart... again. Jongin has always been a good friend to him. They act like how other normal friends act. They laugh together like how other normal friends laugh. They smile at each other like how other normal friends do. But Chanyeol's taking everything the wrong way and he couldn't even stop and pause to listen and understand him.
Baekhyun sat still by the window, looking out at the blurry road. He sat down on his bed when they reached the dorm later on. He plopped down on his mattress, facing the other side of the room where the other bed stood. Does he have to explain himself one more time or let Chanyeol cool off for the meantime. He bit his inner bottom lip and faced the ceiling, feeling exhausted from all the sudden physical and emotional stress he's having. A sound of footsteps echoed in the room and he saw the back of Chanyeol retreating through the door, not once did he face him or speak to him.
"Chanyeol." He called out softly, the tall figure pausing shortly then walking away almost instantly. No matter what he does at the moment, he won't listen to him anyway.
The little growing fight is not a secret to all the members. The reason behind it is most definitely not either. Jongin distanced himself away from both Baekhyun and Chanyeol. He didn't want to get deeply involved in their fight. He apologized to Baekhyun, but Baekhyun shook his head at him and apologized to him instead. Chanyeol happened to be passing by when the two were exchanging remorseful comments, aggravating him more. More fuel into the fire, they said. Since then, Jongin made sure he didn't have any more interaction with Baekhyun for a while.
However, as much as he wanted to leave himself out of it, his little dearest seemed to love being involved. Sehun knows Jongin has no intentions with Baekhyun at all. He perfectly understands the situation and sometimes Baekhyun wishes Chanyeol is just as understanding as Sehun. But of course, as a person who views from the outside who claims to get the whole picture and understand both sides, Sehun is planning to meddle with things. Jongin tried to discourage him but the latter insisted that,
"I can't stand the silence between them when they're clearly both at fault. No one among them is going to fix it unless I step in."
Jongin just sighed. There's no stopping his little pup when he's motivated.
"After all, we don't fight about such things. They should hear and learn from us."
Jongin just sighed again when Sehun snaked his arms around Jongin's middle from behind, resting his cheek on his back. Jongin did a small shake of his head, and a small smile escaped Sehun's lips. That gesture only meant that he can do whatever he wants to do and Jongin will just let him be.
Baekhyun didn't notice that he had fallen asleep. He opened his eyes and realized that the room is dark and night time has fallen. His eyes blurred for a moment and he felt sore from the corners of his eyes. Did he fall asleep crying? A movement swished from the other side of the room and Baekhyun sat up.
"Didn't know you're awake." Came Chanyeol's voice, not conversely, not mad either.
"Channie." Baekhyun started.
He heard Chanyeol pick something up from his side of the room.
"I could stay at Kyungsoo's room and trade places for the night." Chanyeol replied almost immediately.
A grimace fell on Baekhyun's face. So he still isn't forgiven. Chanyeol meant to switch places with Jongin. For what, he doesn't really understand. There's nothing to be even bothered about him and Jongin. Most especially, for the fact that Jongin and Sehun are together. Why can't Chanyeol see that?
"How many times should I tell you?" Baekhyun said exasperatedly.
"What? It's not about Jongin anymore." Chanyeol said coolly.
"Then what is it?"
"I don't know."
Baekhyun pursed his lips. Why does he have to be childish all the time? They could fix it if they could have a serious talk. But he always just ignores him.
"They're having dinner." Chanyeol said before he exited the room.
Baekhyun was thankful that it was Sehun who showed up in his room that night.
"Come on Baek." Sehun urged him the next morning. He told him the previous night that they have to talk it out, heart to heart. If they keep on fighting like this, it won't do any good to their future. Of course, as a norm, Sehun had to take their relationship for an example.
"Jongin and I don't fight over other people. I mean, you know, not that there's anyone to actually get jealous of, but... oh you get what I mean. You guys shouldn't be fighting like this."
"It's not me who thinks that way, Sehun." Baekhyun said in resignation.
"That's why you have to explain it to him slow-- oh, here's Chanyeol." Sehun clapped his hands.
Chanyeol flickered his eyes from Baekhyun, to Sehun, back to Baekhyun.
"Come here." Sehun pulled the tall one towards him, closer to Baekhyun.
"You guys, don't burden your members with your little fight. You have to fix it like a man." Sehun prodded on Chanyeol's chest, the other's eyebrows creased at the center.
"Let's talk." Baekhyun breathed in deeply with a serious look on his face when he looked at Chanyeol.
"About what?"
"About us."
Sehun stood in the middle, shifting his eyes from side to side. Chanyeol avoided Baekhyun's gaze and Sehun was about to say something when Jongin came in.
"Hey, Sehun. Come help me over something." He didn't look Chanyeol in the eyes and the other didn't either.
"But I--"
"Come on, Sehun." Jongin used his persuasive tone at him. Sehun sighed in annoyance before looking back at the two pair beside him.
"You talk." He commanded and stomped his way to Jongin.
"Why are you doing this to me?" Sehun grumpily asked Jongin when they reached a corner. A guilty look appeared on Jongin's face.
"They'll be able to talk better if you leave them alone."
"But I want to see." The younger is starting to throw tantrums.
"You don't always have to be present in fights, Sehun."
"But I want to see how they're going to fix it." Sehun pouted and gave Kai an accusing look.
"You've already done well."
"Eeeeeeh." Sehun turned around to go back to the living room.
Jongin caught his hand and held onto him.
"I want to see~" Sehun whined.
A pair of lips landed on his pouted ones. Sehun immediately shut up and restarted his brain. Jongin bravely pushed further and soon enough he had trapped the other's bottom lip between his.
He pulled away a second after.
Sehun licked his lip inwardly, a smile escaping slightly.
"Ah, you stubborn little idiot." Jongin messed with his hair and pulled him closer by the waist. "I had a feeling you wanted that to happen."
Sehun let out a cheeky grin.
"You know me so well."
However, the other side wasn't going as well as Sehun and Kai's little moment.
"Why don't you want to listen to me?" There was an edge to Baekhyun's voice.
"Just let me, okay? I'm not ready for a make up." Chanyeol said indignantly.
"Then when will you be? If I let you, will you just suddenly be back to normal one day? Do you expect me to act like there's nothing then? That nothing happened? Do you expect me to just let it be and act as if I wasn't hurt? Aren't you being a little unfair?!"
"I'm not the one being unfair here."
"So I am unfair. So I just have to sit and watch you ignore me, avoid me, then one day when you're ready, I should smile at you and say 'hi I missed you' and then you're okay by then but I'm not. How is that fair?"
"Then don't wait if you don't want to."
It left Baekhyun speechless. A tight squeeze tugged in his heart.
"Why are you like this?"
Chanyeol didn't answer when he realized the impact of what he's just said.
Tears formed in the corners of Baekhyun's eyes so he looked down, concentrating on the floor.
"So what is it?" Baekhyun continued. "It's either we fix it or end it now. You choose."
An annoyed grunt ripped through Chanyeol's throat.
"You're over reacting."
"And you're acting too childishly." Baekhyun retorted, his tears spilling without warning.
"I only want to have some time for myself and not get worked up about seeing you with someone else. It stresses me out and it's getting tiring."
A sob came out of Baekhyun.
"Then I'll give you all the time you need. Time for yourself? You can have all of it. If you don't want anything to do with me anymore, then just say so and don't use time as an excuse. If it's tiring then you should have just told me. You're not the only one who's tired of this."
"I didn't mean this." Chanyeol inhaled deeply, trying to keep his composure.
"Just say it, Chanyeol." Baekhyun's voice pierced in the night. He's sure the rest of the members are listening somewhere but he didn't care for now. He felt sorry for Sehun, for all the kind words and advices he told him the previous night. It didn't go his way. Right now, they're drifting more apart. And right now, his emotions couldn't cope anymore.
"Stop it." Chanyeol hissed, looking at him angrily.
"Then I'll say it." Baekhyun planned to make it sound more strongly, but all he managed is a weak whisper. "It's over."
Chanyeol balled his palm into a fist. Baekhyun swung around and ran to his room.
A fist came in contact with the wall. Chanyeol stood there with his back on the other members who stood far behind him, knuckles turned from white to red from the impact of his hit.
Jongin held firmly onto Sehun's hand when Sehun tried to run after Baekhyun, but the other shook his head and he stayed. Baekhyun could use some time alone.
It was only a little fight, concerning Baekhyun and Jongin's few friendly moments and a little hint of jealousy from the left out party, Chanyeol. But it turned out to be a lot big of a deal from one party, that the other had to let everything go just so it would stop.
It stopped. But everything else did.
Chanyeol chose to sleep outside on the couch, saying he'd rather be alone for the meantime. Baekhyun would have moved out if he had decided earlier, but Chanyeol was the first one to take out his beddings and Baekhyun was left to stay alone in his room.
He cried a lot. A lot, nonstop. But he never let anyone see. Not even Sehun who asked if he could stay with him for the night, at which Baekhyun refused to. He just doesn't want to talk about it yet. Or not ever.
"I don't understand." Sehun voiced out his worry to Jongin one day when they cuddled together in Jongin's bed. Kyungsoo actually grudgingly left the room to give the two some privacy.
"Why would they end it just because of a little misunderstanding?" He creased his eyebrows in utter confusion.
"Sometimes," Jongin begun. "When two people hurt at the same time, it gets harder to comprehend the situation. They can't think straight so they end up making the wrong decisions."
"Then if that's the case, even before they get hurt they should have fixed the misunderstanding beforehand." Sehun was in deep thought at this. He knew Chanyeol was the one in the wrong, but Baekhyun just made it worse. It bothered him.
"They should have." Jongin kissed Sehun's temple. "But people are unique and different from each other. What you think is right may not be the same with what they think. Just let them find their own way this time, Sehun. Drop it."
"We..." Sehun looked for the right word. "Won't fall into this kind of situation right?"
"Nope." Kai answered coolly. "As long as we stick with each other, not just physically but mentally and emotionally as well, I don't think we will." He grinned after saying it as if he's convincing a little kid rather than Sehun.
Sehun returned the smile and snuggled closer to his boyfriend. Of course, they won't.
Or Sehun must have concluded so early.
"I'm sorry about..." Jongin paused as he looked at a looking okay Baekhyun. He pulled himself together well, or he's just a really good actor.
"You're not even really a part of it, don't think that you're to blame in this messed up situation." Baekhyun gave him a small reassuring smile.
"But somehow, I was--"
Baekhyun shook his head tiringly.
"No one is to blame but the whole situation. It's probably just bad timing that you were involved. Let's just forget it."
Jongin watched his friend with concern. "You sure you're okay?"
Baekhyun nodded a little. "I will be."
The younger placed a hand on his shoulder. "Don't keep it to yourself. You know Sehun worries about you a lot. I do too."
Another smile lit up the other's face ever so slightly. "Thanks. Tell Sehun I'm ok. You guys don't have to worry. I'm doing fine."
Jongin stared at him to look for any sign of waver but Baekhyun only looked down and kept the little smile in place.
"You're always too quiet about your feelings."
"Not always." Baekhyun corrected.
"Still, don't keep it to yourself." Jongin pat him gently and ruffled his hair.
Baekhyun scrunched up his nose and revealed his teeth. For a second, he looked genuinely happy. But they both know he isn't really.
Jongin suddenly wrapped an arm around him. They shared the little hug, simple and quiet. No words needed, otherwise Baekhyun would have broken down in front of him. And Jongin knew this.
"You'll be fine."
Sehun watched from afar and he couldn't deny that tiny miserable feeling that coated his heart for a second.
"So you feel it too." Chanyeol spoke behind him. He wasn't aware that Chanyeol had been watching the two right behind him.
"What are you talking about?" Sehun dismissed the idea. "I perfectly understand. We're all friends here."
"Who are you kidding?"
Sehun looked at his offender. And that's the first time he saw the distress in Chanyeol's eyes. He's clearly been crying a lot too, and contradicting Baekhyun's calm composure, Chanyeol looked too miserable that no one would ever believe him if he said he's okay.
"Chanyeol, if a person is important to you, you should learn how to trust him. You don't tear him away from his friends."
"That's not what I meant to happen." Chanyeol heaved a big sigh, about to continue explaining but he dropped it instead.
"If he's still so important to you, then what are you doing just watching him from here? It's obvious that he's in misery too."
Chanyeol didn't answer. He just continued staring at Baekhyun who had his back turned. It hit him even before Baekhyun said those last words, it's over, that he's wrong. But it was all too late.
"Should we invite Baekhyun to join us?" Jongin suggested when he and Sehun cramped together in his room to watch some DVDs.
"He must be lonely." Jongin added.
It was a little surprise to Sehun. Lately, he had been mentioning a lot of Baekhyun into their conversations. It's nothing to him, he convinced himself, but it always did send a weird sensation to him.
"Should we?" Sehun asked.
"I'll call him."
Baekhyun joined them a little after. All three of them watched together and Jongin entertained him a bit when the movie's at a boring part. Sehun laughed with him at times, oftentimes he remained silent. Maybe he's starting to understand Chanyeol.
Sehun didn't mind much of it until one day, Jongin took Baekhyun out to grab lunch together. It wouldn't have been much of a big deal, if only Jongin had let him know beforehand. He only found out when they got home.
Sehun stared into space in the living room while some of the members watched TV. A frown formed on his face and he didn't notice Baekhyun watching him.
"Jongin, Sehun." Baekhyun spoke to Jongin almost immediately that night. He wasn't blind not to notice things.
"What about Sehun?"
"Shouldn't you stay focused on him?" Baekhyun pointed out without explaining further.
"What do you mean?" Jongin asked cluelessly, his expression innocent.
"I think..." Baekhyun closed his eyes for a moment. "He's feeling sad."
"He never mentioned anything to me."
"Of course he wouldn't." Baekhyun said matter-of-factly. "I mean. I don't know. Maybe Sehun's a bit more aware of us now."
"Aware? Is it a bad thing? I mean, you know I'm just trying to help. He worries himself over you too, so."
"That's not it." The older paused. "Sometimes you just feel something that's not ordinary. And it just suddenly leads to confusion, later on misunderstanding." He spoke in experience.
"You mean like..."
Baekhyun nodded.
"But it's not like that."
"I'm totally feeling fine. Don't worry about me anymore."
Jongin looked at his friend, understanding dawning on him.
"I'll go find Sehun."
Baekhyun beamed at him as a goodbye.
Sehun was lying on his bed when Jongin found him. He knocked even when the door is wide open.
"Jongin?"
"Hi." Jongin greeted and entered the dark room. Junmyun wasn't around, probably still at the living room. The room was dark and he didn't bother to turn on the light.
"I wasn't able to say goodnight to my Sehun." He acted cutely.
Sehun laughed a little.
"That's weird, Jongin."
"What? It's not." He sat himself comfortably on the edge of Sehun's bed.
Sehun reached out for Jongin's hair and stroked it away from his face. He traced the outline of his face in the dark silently, a frown slowly appearing on his lips and he let it because he knew Jongin would never notice.
"What's wrong?" Jongin asked. He could tell from the way Sehun's touch seemed so unsure and tense.
"Nothing." Sehun muttered.
"Whatever it is, you shouldn't be worrying about it." Jongin said with confidence.
"Shouldn't I be?" Sehun whispered to himself but Jongin heard it clearly.
He leaned in. "Yes, you shouldn't be."
Sehun let out a forced smile.
Jongin sighed. "Come on, sit up." He pat the space closer to him.
Sehun shuffled and sat up in front of Jongin, puppy eyes looking straight at his boyfriend.
Jongin enveloped him in his arms.
"First, you should let go of your insecurities and doubts."
Sehun buried his head in the crook of his neck.
"Second, didn't we say we'll never fall on a situation like this?"
Surprise showed in Sehun's eyes. He didn't think he would notice.
"Third, you're the only one. You know that."
Sehun wrapped his arms on his back and hugged him tighter.
"It's not that I'm assuming things. But someone once said that a misunderstanding should be fixed before both parties get hurt." Jongin smiled a little. Sehun sniffed.
"Does this someone mean a lot to you?" His voice croaked from gulping down his sobs.
Jongin ran a hand up and down his back to calm him down. "More than anything and anyone else."
A mix of a chuckle and a sob came out of Sehun.
"Hey, get your emotions straight." Jongin said jokingly and Sehun hit him lightly.
"It's your fault."
"I'm sorry?" He offered.
Sehun sighed loudly. "How I wish Baekhyun and Chanyeol could make up easily."
Jongin pinched him on the cheek. "You just finished worrying about me, now you're worrying about someone else. Sehun, stop involving yourself in too much heartbreaks."
"It makes me sad when people around me are sad."
"Just give them time. I know they'll be back to each other soon. They're about to crack soon anyway, don't you notice?
Sehun beamed. "I do."
Jongin returned the smile comfortingly. "You know what you didn't notice?"
"Wha--"
Jongin kissed him. Sehun's eyes fluttered shut while Jongin proceeded to deepen the kiss, a hand holding him at the small of his back.
"I didn't notice that coming." Sehun whispered between kisses, slightly chuckling while Jongin gently bit on his lower lip.
The night carried on. The line "kissed the night away" just came to life during that night.
Baekhyun was about to leave his room when someone else entered. It didn't matter much until he realized who had gone in. Someone he haven't seen inside the room for a few days already.
Chanyeol stood at the door, eyes avoiding Baekhyun. Baekhyun didn't say anything but waited for Chanyeol to speak.
"I'm only here to take something back."
Baekhyun didn't notice that he was holding his breath. So he exhaled, and stepped aside to let Chanyeol get to his side of their room. He started to walk forward to leave when Chanyeol spoke again.
"It's you." He whispered.
Baekhyun froze.
"I'm sorry."
The tall one looked straight into Baekhyun's eyes.
"I'm sorry, Baekhyun."
He didn't say anything.
"I know I was wrong. I was wrong the whole time. And this, this isn't the right way to do it. But I'm willing to do it the right way if you tell me how. Forgive me?"
"Wouldn't it be too easy if you get what you want right now?"
"Then make it hard for me." He slightly begged.
"How about we just stop where we stopped permanently and never pick up again?"
"Not that." Chanyeol stepped closer and Baekhyun noticed the lines on his forehead. He's pretty stressed out, physically.
Baekhyun fell silent.
"Did you mean that?" Chanyeol asked, scared. Did Baekhyun really want out? Completely?
Something tugged at Baekhyun's heart.
"If that's the only way you'll forgive me..." Chanyeol's eyes started to glisten and he looked away.
"I only want us to avoid the same mistake."
"It won't happen again." Chanyeol almost immediately swore.
"Don't make promises you can't keep."
"That's why I'm going to try my best to keep it."
Baekhyun breathed in resignation.
"Baekhyun, can I take you back? I'm so miserable without you. I didn't want us to break apart. I was stupid to even let my emotions get in the way. I was stupid for not listening to you. I'm so stupid for even hurting you with my actions. But I swear, I never wanted you out. I would never. Never. I can't even imagine myself without you, and the past days seemed so empty and a waste. There's nothing without you."
"Shhh." Baekhyun held a finger against his own lips. He dropped his hand and frowned.
Chanyeol looked at him for a while before he pulled him into a tight big hug. He ended up crying so bad on Baekhyun's shoulders.
"You're still so childish." Baekhyun stiffled a sob.
"I'm so sorry. You were right. I'm only being childish. I never listened. And--"
"You never listened." Baekhyun accused.
"I'm sorry." He would say it for as long as he can, until it sunk in. "I'm sorry."
"Idiot." Baekhyun muttered under his breath, his tears openly flowing now.
"I'm sorry that an idiot loves you and gives you pain at the same time."
Baekhyun chuckled softly. "It's my fault that I fell so deeply in love with that idiot."
Chanyeol wiped his tears with his hands and proceeded to wiping away Baekhyun's. "I'm sorry that I made you cry."
"I cry for people who deserve my tears."
"Baekhyun." Chanyeol breathed on his face.
A tear-strained face looked up at Chanyeol.
"I love you."
More tears flowed out from Baekhyun's eyes.
Chanyeol grimaced with slight amusement.
"You don't cry on a confession." He wiped the single tear with his finger.
"It felt real." Baekhyun joked.
"This would make it feel more real."
Chanyeol leaned in closely and closed the gap between them. And Baekhyun could only sigh at the sweet tender kiss.
"It didn't feel that real. Try again, maybe?" Baekhyun pouted foolishly.
Chanyeol laughed before pulling him in for another kiss, this time more real.
"You don't even listen to me." Baekhyun said in a hushed tone. Chanyeol rolled his eyes and went to sit next to Kyungsoo, leaving a sighing Baekhyun at the backseat.
Sehun looked over at Jongin and shook his head in dismay. Jongin raised a brow on the two quarreling lovebirds.
Kyungsoo let out a little cough. Chanyeol sighed in defeat. He faced the back and called out for his boyfriend.
"Baek." Chanyeol turned to him. Baekhyun feigned not hearing him. Chanyeol sighed the second time. He sat back beside Baekhyun and leaned his head on his shoulder, slipping his fingers with his.
"Okay, I'll listen."
Baekhyun let out a huff.
"I'm sorry." He pecked him on the cheek, and Baekhyun turned a shade of pink.
"I did not see that." Kyungsoo turned to face Junmyun at the front seat.
Sehun giggled while he locked his hand with Jongin's. Sehun made sure Kyungsoo was looking when he pulled Jongin for a kiss. And Kyungsoo had to force himself to sleep during the whole travel and swore that he's not ever going to sleep in the same room with Jongin, or Sehun, or Chanyeol, or Baekhyun for the next few days. To which Junmyun replied with a,
"You have the couch unoccupied for you."
PS. I’m a girl.
