Wow, Naj, what an intense fic it is. I just had to mop the floor, do my one-hour training and then shower to clear my mind after this. And now please, let me share my thoughts with you.
First of all - Suho's death. He dies in every single fic I am reading: having a heart disease, Sunny crushing his head like an egg and then this. I think he's just the most emotional character (or authors make him being like this) and his death is always sad and touching, but not so memorable. In your story Suho's being a wise man, but getting lost in his feelings, when it's about his dearest people. I am so glad that he didn't give Kyungsoo more than just a hope - maybe Kyungsoo would then die being a little happy, but it could break Suho's heart. He's really a wise man - he knows he's the problem there and he is ready to say 'goodbye', because he knows his dear brother is now a real soldier and he will go through his life with his head up. That's why I love Junmyun so much - he died in peace being still cheerful. But it was cruel tho. (If I want to have a happy Junmyun ALIVE til the end of a fic I should write it by myself, sigh) I almost cried when he decided to die and it was worse than the onesided!baekyeol.
Talking about Baekyeol - you were right, it was just a subtle pairing and it didn't make me feel down. But the character of Chanyeol did. The poor kid lost in a brutal battlefield. He must have felt lonely - not loved by Baekhyun, hated by Kai and he's one of the boys who stayed alive. You never told us what happened between him and Kai before and after the story (but I think it's intended), I just had hope that they will make it up, but yeah one plot feels so incomplete. I still care about his fate the most.
The Sekai thing here - mixed feelings. Maybe it's just because I wasn't so much on Kai's side (what can a fic do with your love to your bias T___T). I'm not complaining, because I know this shouldn't be a Sekai fic and I really really like it.
And then in the end, there is that peaceful, serene face of Luhan - an angel, who's a strong leader at the same time. I know it sounds wrong, but his death was kind of... relief for me. He had done everything he could and now he can rest in peace, leaving the rest of his team with their lives. He lost Xiumin, but he knows Chen will be okay someday, he lost Junmyun and Kyungsoo - a couple, so he doesn't need to worry about them anymore, the same thing is with Baekhyun and Tao. He knows Sehun is a strong man now and Kai, who was always a stone-like person. He's leaving Kris but he knows how Kris is - he will recover - he knows him so good, doesn't he? So there's only Chanyeol left being forgotten, but at least Luhan died in peace - his team did it, the war is over. They won.
I'm listening to your recommended song now (I can't listen songs with lyrics while reading a fic) and it such an intense song - just like this story. I was about writing my fic now, but honestly I lost my motivation - it wouldn't be as half as good as yours, because all of your works are great pieces and you're still my favorite author. Thank you for reading my essay, sorry for taking your time hehe, really I don't know why am I writing something like this. Too many feelings.
Thank you for writing, Naj, don't stop it please, huhu! XOXO, Twin
I dont even know what to say right now and I just felt like I had to at least write a comment back because this just took a lot of time and effort didnt it? And even so, I would still respond to this because it's so touching to read such comment to a fic.
I understood all your feelings and seriously, I share the same sentiments. I did quite overlook Chanyeol's character and thought that maybe it's best for him to leave like how he entered, not with Baekhyun. And maybe it was cruel to leave him like that, as if with nothing, but I can assure you he did get something out of the events. At some point, he and Kai had forgiven each other. Even though there's no solid evidence for this, but the scene where they practically teamed up together just to save their lives (and their nation) was something. Maybe they have to talk about it further, but I'm sure after that they've learned to let each other off the hook.
And ohmygod, to make you not side Jongin probably gave you a really bad impression of his character here. I'm so glad this is all just fiction haha. Luhan, I dont have much to say about your analysis of his side of the story. Because you got most of it and I feel the same way.
I'm really touched that you wrote this long comment and really took time to give it some thought. And this is really not enough to express my appreciation. You have no idea how this kind of comment really makes the writer feel successful of his/her work. I appreciate it so much and Im really thankful that you did appreciate the piece. ♥ And don't even lose confidence. Use whatever gives you 'feels' as an inspiration. Im not saying make me your inspiration, but when you think there's something that's greater than you at the time, you just have use that as a challenge and try harder. It works :) Thank you so much for this again Kat. You're awesome! And you're really good at writing this kind of things, I don't see why you'd think you're at all behind. We're just obviously on the same level and I believe in you!
