Well, it looks like I will soon have to consider putting this laptop down and replacing it. I bought it used from a friend a couple of years ago and it's about 5 years old now. It's really starting to groan under the weight of the larger media files it has to run and it's also breaking down often with power supply issues.
So I'm beginning to think of replacing this guy now. The question is- should I go with an Apple or a PC?
I do run a lot of media files and when I start working on my performing arts PhD, I'll be using a lot sound recording and video recording stuff.
Mobility and something lightweight would be pretty cool too.
I've always had PCs until this Mac and I really like it, but there are some things that drive me crazy about it, such as how iPhoto SUCKS and how Apple leaves you with little choices as to components and add-ons (their business practices around the iPod and the iPhone make them look very similar to Microsoft). But considering that this guy is 5 years old, it's survived alright.
Obviously, getting a Mac is a bit more expensive, but I do get an educator discount.
With a PC, I could feasibly get things like a bigger hard drive and more RAM for less money, but what little I've used of Windows Vista, I'm not terribly fond of it. And I wonder if they can last as long.
So I'm asking all my friends from both camps...for a new laptop, PC or Mac?
Ask me questions, give me reasons. I'd love your input.
Thanks!
