http://animemediaz.com/naruto-shippuuden/ I have watched Naruto from the beginning to the current episodes.. I talked in the past how I liked some of them because they reminded me much of how Dragonball was. There were a few episodes which captured the epic feeling that I enjoy in some anime.
On another level, there is something else about both I really connect with: the intensity of the situation that you dont see in text. In dragonball lets start with... In one Episode (which many people who watched the show will know of) Gohan is watching Cell jr's beat the tar out of everyone he loves and likes. They are being beat up for no other reason other than to provoke Gohan into rage. All of Gohans morals and training was to keep him from going into this rage... Everything he has been taught was to not let his emotions take control of him. In this sense; anger and rage in Dragonball is evil. To achieve his end, Cell kills someone to Gohan who was completely innocent. Cyborg number 16. Gohan I guess felt pity for 16 as he was not really intelligent. Number 16 was more emotional and knew the difference between basic good and evil. His job he felt was to kill goku, but he would not harm anything else. He took painstaking care not to endanger other living things. Gohan saw this as innocence (sp).
At any rate, Cell noticed Gohans attachment to 16 and killed him by crushing his skull right in front of Gohan (some bits of him hit Gohans face). This sent Gohan over the edge. The rage he unleashed allowed him to push his inner being past the form that he knew. He became super saiyajin 2. This power level was new and the highest anyone had seen, so he made quick order of all the cell jr's before taking on cell.
In Naruto, most of the main characters are plagued with abondment. Naruto is the cage where an ancient demon is stored. In Japanese history, many myths describe evil and good and other various forces as demons. This particular one is known as Kitsune.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KitsuneLooking through the lore for it, you can get two extremes from it. That it is evil and also that it is very benevolent. Naruto seems to capture the evil aspect of the demon... Also it captures it's extreme chaotic nature (prolly another reason why I am drawn to it)...
Naruto himself was the martyr for his town. People who knew hated him for two reasons... One of them is they are afraid that the demon could get loose... Also they are afraid to give him a position of power because of the power within him.
Naruto though is very lonely because of this. Inside he feels outcast. He did not know why he was isolated and left alone. His parents dead from the battle with the demon trapped in him.
He learns of this much later... And it is painful to find out that his whole village has kept this secret from him, which he didn't think it was a big deal. He then finds out one of his team mates had bee betrayed by his older brother. His brother killed his family as an assignment from a secret group. This character raised alone like Naruto has different motivations for his training. Naruto found in this guy acceptence of his existence where no one else did. This friendship/rivalry is what fuels Naruto.
In the first series of Naruto, this character (Sasuke) trains with naruto and becomes the goal for a villain to become the new host body after he is an adult. When Sasuke leaves naruto it is because he is posessed by the villains powers.
The second series is a few years after Naruto has gotten older, he finds out that he can try to get to his friend and set him free from his enslavement to this evil person. Near the end of the first series they start hinting at this secret groups desire to use naruto for his demon. Like a weapon. And this goes on further in the second series... And the show really lays it on thick about the abuse of kids for power.
What really draws me about the demon and Naruto is how Naruto gives in to the demons way to use his power. The demon is not very intelligent, but has alot more power than most other demons. Fueled by rage and pure anger, this demon can tap and do things that most others cannot. One of the more terrifying moments is in episode 42 (irony) where Naruto has given into the demon to defeat the evil villain. And the demon transforms Naruto into an avatarish form of himself. Doing this would kill naruto if he didnt give his consiousness to the demon to control. This avatarish form tears all the skin from his body, converting it into its energy form, and some of his blood goes with it. Afterwards, Naruto would have to rest in bandages for months... This physical sacrafice is something Naruto gives to get to his friend. The longer he is under this mode, the more his consiousness is reduced and the more the demon is released. If left this way for too long, Naruto would cease to exist, the seal made to lock the demon would break, and he would be released and wreak havoc again.
During this episode, Naruto sheds blood and water from within his body (considered two of the most powerful and purest forms of human energy) into spheres around him. Then he condenses them into a solid black sphere that is soo powerful, it is distorting the area around it. Everyone witnessing this knows how powerful and devestating it is. Instead of pushing it or doing anything like shaping it into something, he eats it. Then he lets it explode within, and lets the released energy focus out of his mouth in the form of a beam.
Something I noticed as I was watching this for the third time was the soundtrack for Naruto. It is very opratic and deep. It helps convey the grandure of what you are watching, even if it is animaton.
Another perk I like about his series is their director of animation sees the coreography and cinematography similar to what I would see for directing and laying out a scene and action. Kudos for that. Very epic I must say.
