i have decided to try to figure out just how long it will take just how many monkeys to randomly type a 500 word essay, using only letters a-z, commas, spaces, periods, and the ability to start new paragraphs with the press of a single key

also, i decided to do a more realistic test of how long it would take for a single monkey, pounding away at a keyboard to type the sentence, "i am." using the same rules as the one before

according to my crazy new figuring, i figured it would take a single monkey 11.25 days to write "i am." on a typewriter that could not jam, with only 30 keys on it, while completely randomly pressing all of the keys, each just as much as the others.

while pounding away at a keyboard as randomly as possible, i timed it to around 500 keystrokes in 20 seconds, or 1500 in 1 minute. this comes to 2160000 keystrokse in 1 day, with the chance of them typing 5 specific keys in a specific order out of 30 random keys being 1 in 30^5, or 1/24300000

that brings us to the chance of them doing it in 1 day, which would be 2160000/24300000, or 4 in 45, which reduces to a chance of 1/11.25 of it happening in a single day, or the chance of 1/1 of it happening in 11.25 days.
