i have decided to try to figure out just how long it will take just how many monkeys to randomly type a 500 word essay, using only letters a-z, commas, spaces, periods, and the ability to start new paragraphs with the press of a single key.
i arbitrarily stated that at full speed, with no comprehension of what they are doing, they could type around 120 letters per minute, with a total of typing 3000 letters/pressing 3000 keys.
the minimum time required would be 25 minutes, and the chance of that happening in the first 3000 keystrokes would be one in 30^2000. so, you could make an equation to describe this, which would probably be: (number of monkeys)(time in minutes)=30^2000
i think...
according to my most likely incorrect math/logic, it would take 7.17899877 X10^73 monkeys around 30^2950 years to write a single, specific 500 word essay, excluding all punctuation other than line spacing, regular spacing, periods and commas, and excluding capital letters.
i hardly think that it's possible that any number of monkeys, using any number of typewriters, for any amount of time could produce any work of shakespeare.
