This story left me with a lot of questions.
Why is this a story about anthropomorphic animals?
Why is this a grim dark Western about anthropomorphic animals with guns?
Why is there interspecies dating? Really, an owl and a snake?
Why, given this setup, was the book not a comedy, even a dark one because I really cannot take it seriously but it is really not funny?
Why are all these animals assholes and why am I expected to care about them?
Why did Polansky spend a third of the book doing nothing but introducing these boring asshole characters?
Why, even with animal protagonists and fantasy countries, did the author inject some real world racism?
Why are there so many chapters with about six lines?
Why won't they all just die already?
Why was this on an awards ballot and who can I complain to?
