Life in the Time of Buskers

Mar 20, 2016 13:41

I'm not sure if it's the economy or what, but lately there have been quite a lot of buskers in the area around my home. It's always nice when life gets a soundtrack. Here's the roundup of the local entertainment.

Hotel California Guy - What it says on the tin. He plays Hotel California on the guitar with a recorded accompaniment. I am not convinced he can play any other song.

Incense Guy - He plays jazzy/bluesy guitar and burns incense.

"French" Accordion Guy - I don't mean that he's actually French but that he plays the sort of music that I associate with France. You know, if there's a trip to France on a TV show, they'll play this sort of accordion music to let you know where you are.

Polka Accordion Guy - Plays polka-esque music. I believe Polka Accordion Guy and French Accordion Guy are mortal enemies. There was once an across the street accordion off. (Kinda like a rap battle with accordions.) Polka guy was not the winner and I have not seen him since.

Tenor Saxophone Guy - He played sitting on the ground and had to contort his body oddly to keep the saxophone from resting on the ground. He was pretty good.

Recorder Guy - The oldest of the buskers. I'm not sure if he really was a bucker or perhaps just a hippie with a sudden need to throw down some recorder tunes.

Traffic Cone Guy - Yes, his "instrument" is a traffic cone. Hammersmith is his weekend haunt - I don't know where he goes during the week, but he's here every weekend. Basically he sings "OOOOooooOOOOooooOOOO" into the traffic cone. OOOoooOOO over and over. OOOoooOOO. He is not a quitter either. It goes on for hours. OOOoooOOO. I can hear it from my flat even when he's down in Lyric Square because he's loud. Really, I would pay him to stop.
