Disgusted to see Tor is partnering with Scientific American and the Centre for Quantum Technologies at the National University of Singapore in a contest that makes a shameful rights grab when someone submits a story:

Reading down a little further, it seems like the work must already have a CC Attribution Share-Alike license (if I'm reading it right; I'm not a lawyer), in which case it's not just Tor who can do whatever they want with your work -- anyone else can do so too, as long as they keep the attribution.

I think if people want to release things under one of the CC licenses then they should do it, if they understand the possible consequences; I hope that everyone submitting to the contest is aware of this condition and are clear on what it entails.

Yes, it's true that anyone can exploit your work, but realistically, Tor are the only one likely to do so (at least initially) since they will be the only ones with access to the text (and are a business which publishes fiction, unlike the other two contest organizers.)
