Want a little eye candy?? (Plus recs)

Ugh, you guys, I've been trying to get stuff done, but my weekend has been totally eaten by a TV show. Has anyone else seen Noah's Arc? It was a series on Logo a few years back -- seventeen 22-minute episodes plus a follow-up movie. (If you have Netflix, you can stream all of it online; otherwise I think it's only on DVD.) It's about the friendship and relationships of four African-American gay men, and it reminds me a lot of both Sex and the City and Queer as Folk, particularly in the way the group of friends is the heart of the show. (Noah, the main character, is very much like Carrie Bradshaw in terms of personality, profession, and outlandish fashion choices. And by the end of each series, I wanted to smack both of them, LOL.)

I'll be honest: it's not really that great of a show. The acting ranges from adequate to awful, the writing is uneven, the storylines are often ridiculous, and yet...it's like crack. I marathoned it for five straight hours last night and finished it up today. I ended up loving most of the characters. It helps that they're hot -- see pictorial evidence below (note that a couple of these photos could possibly be a little spoilery if you're sensitive to that kind of thing):

The four friends: Chance, Alex, Noah, and Ricky.

Noah and Wade.

Ricky the man whore, my favorite character. :-P

Ricky and Junito (played by Wilson Cruz of "My So-Called Life" and "Rent"! LOVE HIM!)

Ricky and Junito kissing, NOM.

In addition to the fun characters and the general hotness, I also appreciated that just about every character, including bit parts and extras, was played by a person of color. Not something you see on TV every day! (That said, there are very, very few women at all, and none in major roles. Guess you can't win 'em all.)

Anyway, I would rec the show with the caveats above, ie don't expect any artistic greatness from it. Also, I wasn't 100 percent happy with how everything was resolved in the end (which is why I would love to talk about it with anyone who has seen it).

Also, I wanted to rec some Trek stuff!

ST FIC
Reaching for the Sky Just to Surrender by what_alchemy (Spock/McCoy, NC-17, rimming, addiction, references to infanticide)
This is a sensitive take on McCoy as an alcoholic. It was painful to read at times but thoroughly engrossing. The development of his relationship with Spock felt realistic to me, and I loved how Jim was such a good friend to him.

Little Things by seanchaidh (Kirk/McCoy, PG, offscreen character death)
This fic was written for my prompt of "the last time Bones lets Jim try to cook for him." There's both domestic sweetness and a little heartbreak here.

ST ART
On the Run by ileliberte (Spock, Uhura, Kirk, G)
This is such a cool action scene, with dramatic colors and silhouettes.

WC FIC
Through the Steam by lionessvalenti (Peter/Elizabeth[/Neal], NC-17)
This is a little follow-up to Bought and Paid For Fantasy (Peter/Elizabeth, Peter/Elizabeth/Neal, Neal/Kate, NC-17), an AU in which Peter and Elizabeth hire Neal as an escort to join them on their anniversary. Definitely read that first, and then check out the little follow-up dedicated to me. :-D

If you enjoy something, consider leaving a comment!

ETA: There are now Noah's Arc spoilers in the comments.
