Recs, birthday wishes, and a thank you

Crossroads by nurturing_roads (Remus/Sirius, PG)
I think this author only writes about one fic a year, but everything she does write is well worth reading. (nurturing_roads, if you're reading this, you should come out to play more often! *smiles*) This is a smart, believable portrait of conflict between Remus and Sirius after they graduate and start working for the Order; Remus is having a political awakening while Sirius doesn't seem to care about anything beyond what's for lunch. The resolution -- brought about with help from a marvelous Marlene McKinnon -- gave me that satisfied feeling of "Oh, of course."
A Phoenix in a Pear Tree by minnow_53 (Remus/Sirius, PG-13)
minnow_53 always writes some of the most creative R/S out there, and this is a charming example. It consists of five Christmas scenes, one of them featuring a characterization of Remus's parents that I've never seen before, and another featuring a pretty hilarious use of polyjuice potion, and another featuring a happy ending complete with moldy cake. Great fun, with a little angst to keep things from being too sugary. :-)

After Quidditch by Anonymous (Harry/Draco/Blaise, NC-17)
*whimper* I can't stop staring at this one. HOT.
In the Dusk of Early Winter by Anonymous (Harry/Draco, R)
This is absolutely stunning. I love the soft lines of their bodies and the tenderness of the way Harry is holding Draco. *melts into a huge puddle*
Secret Longings by Anonymous (Narcissa/Lily, R)
Nnnngh, these women are just so ridiculously beautiful...the dresses, the hair, Lily's eyes. *drinks them in*

How Many Roads? or, 27 Times Jim Kirk Hit On Nyota Uhura by captanddeastar (Kirk/Uhura [sort of], background Spock/Uhura, R)
This is so goooood. It's as funny as you might imagine, given the premise -- Jim can be such a dickhead, LOL, and the author doesn't shy away from that aspect of his personality, even as she also shows us his fundamental decency and heart. What I loved most about this was the way the fic follows the development of Jim and Nyota's relationship, from antagonism to what becomes a deep, loving friendship. The last few of the 27 times moved me progressively closer to tears. Beautiful.
How the Girl Feels by withthepilot (Zoe/Chris, established Zach/Chris, NC-17, crossdressing, drag queen antics, pegging)
Okay, first off, this is a sequel to Cherry Lips (Zach/Chris, NC-17, crossdressing, drag queen antics), which you should definitely read first just so you have the right background. But it's the second one that really got me by the throat...the way Zoe is reluctantly intrigued by Chris's female persona, and the way that seemingly artificial persona gives them both a way to be more themselves. Seriously fabulous writing here.

I think the title says it all. *cough* It's the clutching fingers that get me in this one -- you can see exactly how they're feeling in that one little detail. (Although the amazing facial expressions help too, LOL.)

If you want to see strong, sassy women kicking ass and taking names, check out this fun vid. I don't even know who half these characters are (I haven't seen all the many Star Trek series out there), but I felt empowered by the end of this.
