[You get a mildly interesting sight, vatheon; Cynthia with her hair up in a ponytail, casual clothes on, and a Gible in her lap. The gible is gnawing on a melon that's about the perfect size for its mouth.]So! There are some new trainers out there that are raising baby pokemon. I thought it would be a good idea to talk about making sure they're ( Read more... )

You're working with Silver? [but he is glad to see the other Gible hatched]

He's very troubling, and normally I'd let the influence of other trainers handle him and shape him properly, but since there aren't any, I've taken it into my own hands.

He needs some sort of role model, and he'll take the word of a champion over others.

[Sigh! She'd rather not have to but she doesn't want to let Silver run completely amok.]

He seems too influenced by his father and his stupid organization to care much about what everyone else has to say. Does he actually listen to you? [AS MUCH AS HE DOES TRUST CYNTHIA, he finds this a bit hard to believe.]

That's because he believes in his father. It doesn't take much to see that.

But he does. I'd like to say it's my feminine charm, but I really think it's just my title.

[She laughs at her own dry humor, but she doesn't seem disheartened.]

But if that title gave me anything, it gave me opportunities. I can't change him overnight, but I can work with him.

[Cheren is an awkward dude at times, like when dealing with feminine charms, so he is just going to... ignore that...]

His father's ways are wrong. For as much as he states that he believes his father is a weakling, he should actually act upon that and be something different than his father was. Either way, though, whichever reason it is, if he can listen to you at the very least, it's an improvement.

You can't forget that he's still just a child. And no one has ever taught him the right thing. The only person he's known on any intimate level was his father.

He's not just being cruel for the sake of it. He doesn't know better. I'm trying to take away that excuse at the very least.

He looks around my age, though. Surely after other Trainers here, and presumably back at home, telling him he was wrong, he would pick up on that.

Well, you wouldn't take advice from someone who isn't your superior, would you? It's a bit like taking the advice of someone on how to quit smoking when they haven't, themselves. You disregard their advice, even if it's sound, because why should you listen to someone who obviously doesn't follow what they say?

I had to defeat him rather soundly to get him remotely willing to listen to me, anyway. He's a lot like a pokemon, himself; actions speak louder than words or logic do.

If everyone is telling him he's not doing things correctly, superior or not, he should've taken a hint. Or perhaps looked into books back home. I personally want to be the best I can be, so if another Trainer did offer advice, I'd at least look into it.

He doesn't think quite like you do, though.

Just don't worry about it. Dismissal right now will be the best way to handle his behavior, up until he does something violent.

[and in his opinion, things would be easier if everyone thought like he did. But it probably actually wouldn't be.]

Has he actually done anything yet, then?

If he has, then he's smart enough to not let me see it.

[A... surprisingly dark little chuckle, here. Cynthia seems lenient but she can crack the whip.]

[seeing as she is a strong Champion, it's not too surprising. A bit unexpected, maybe, because Cynthia is all happy usually, and she shouldn't laugh like that, but. Yeah.]

Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. But at any rate, have his Pokemon been getting better treatment lately?

Oh, of course! It's very easy to convince him why taking good care of them will ultimately end up profitable. It's the compassion part that's the hardest to unlock, but it's just like picking a deadbolt. It takes patience, finesse, and some guts.

Makes sense. But surely he could be convinced to be more compassionate if he wanted his Golbat to evolve. Just being nice for a while won't make it like him enough to evolve, after all.
