Top 5 Pink Floyd list

Aug 02, 2006 10:35

I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan, but this list is worthy. I was listening to "Momentary Lapse of Reason" in my car this morning on the way to the last day of my soul-sucking job and I knew I needed to make a list here ( Read more... )

Many soccer clubs have adopted anthems and cheers that the fans take to singing/chanting through the matches. The song the crowd in "Fearless" is singing is Gerry & The Pacemakers "You'll Never Walk Alone", originally a Rogers & Hammerstein number, which is the anthem of Liverpool FC (other clubs, such as Celtic FC, have also adopted the song over the years).

I bow to your knowledge. The idea of a bunch of soccer hooligans singing "Ferry 'Cross the Mersey" makes me smile more and wish I could pay some off to do that during a match. It could be just me.

And your icon is hysterical!

If I were a rich guy like Malcolm Glazer, instead of buying Manchester United, I would probably attempt a pay-off of that sort. :-D>

My husband's a filmmaker. Should he ever make it big, you know what I'm doing. ::Grins::

First of all, hooray for a list. Makes me feel all "High Fidelity" and filth. But yeah, I have a troubled history with The Floyd.
Here's the thing: everyone is still super hung up on Dark Side of the Moon. I don't even think that's their best album. I would go for Wish You Were Here because it has two of my favorite Floyd songs, "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and "Wish You Were Here." But Pink Floyd is so dang pretentious half the time. They do the whole, "We're going to lead into this otherwise normal song with 6 minutes of droning synths. Why? Because we're Pink Floyd and we're here to mess with you."
I do like quite a few songs by Pink Floyd but sometimes they frustrate me too much to listen to them. Does that make me a simpleton? Probably. But still, half the time I listen to Pink Floyd I get the sensation that they're messing with me just because they can. Every time "Time" comes on the radio I feel like Roger Waters is somewhere laughing at me. But maybe that's just me.

I...don't like..."Dark Side of the Moon." (::cringes from impending beatings from ravenous Floyd fans::) I don't cry when I hear hear "Money" though.

"Momentary Lapse" isn't a bad album, but not my favorite (it has some really dippy songs on it). Check out "Meddle," it's pretty sweet.

Roger Waters needs a hug.

And dude, this community was made for obsessive Top 5 lists!

Oh, for shizzle. Top 5 lists make the music world go 'round. No problems here. It's just that almost every time I make some comment about how Dark Side of the Moon isn't that great or something, Floyd fans come out of the woodwork to beat me down.
But yeah, go give Roger Waters a hug. And I do have "Meddle" and it is one of their more enjoyable albums.
But saying you don't like Dark Side of the Moon is like when Peter from Family Guy admits to not liking the Godfather and everyone jumps on him for it. It's totally like that.

No, what Roger Waters needs is a cheeseburger. He looks like he weighs all of about 98 pounds.

The problem with this is that most Floyd albums need to be listened to all the way through. I think most of my favorites have been mentioned in the comments above.

I'm curious as to why people tiptoed around The Wall. The guitar solo in "Comfortably Numb" has got to be one of the greatest in history. "Young Lust" has a cool bassline.

Not which "people" you're referring to. I personally put two tracks from there on my list. Do you mean music fans in general?

Maybe I didn't read closely enough. I meant in the comments above, not people in general.

Ah so. Nope I mentioned "the Wall." -- "4. Tie - "One of My Turns" or "Mother" - Listened to the majority of "the Wall" on repeat my sophomore year of HS. Not b/c I was particularly depressed (more than any other teenager at that point), but again, I was fascinated by the lyrics. So when my sister had gotten it on vinyl at a garage sale, I quickly commandeered it. "And I can feel one of my turns coming on./I feel cold as razor blade/Tight as a tourniquet /Dry as a funeral drum..." There's still love. :)
