"The J-shape stands for Jesus and also his sheperds' crook. The flavor of peppermint is similar to hyssop, used for purification and sacrifice. The white symbolizes the purity of Jesus, the bold red stripe symbolizes God's love, and the three fine stripes represent the Holy Trinity and the blood Jesus shed for us."~paraphrased from a flier randomly left on my desk, I think by the Freshman Class Council
Things have been what I can only describe as up-and-down recently. Adam and I are having some issues that are too depressing to go into, I made callbacks for a play but didn't make the final cut (Tedd gets to be accosted by a gay man and commit suicide, though), and I really don't know how I'm going to survive both finals and the wrath of my parents when I fail said finals.
On the up side, I love my friends.
Alyssa, Mary, Tedd and I are doing a scene from A Midsummer Night's Dream for the Shakespeare Festival in February. Auditions are on Wednesday- I really hope we make it. We've rehearsed twice, once yesterday in the Walsh basement with a lot of hilarity. Alyssa's a great director, and Mary is something like our combination producer/stage manager. Tedd's the prima donna with the busy schedule that we have to work around, and I...heh, I suppose I'm the costumer, since I'm already designing clothes in my head.
After that, Mary and I went Christmas shopping. We actually got a fair amount accomplished, except that I still have not yet managed to obtain any of the things I really needed, like superglue and a hat/scarf/gloves. We got a whole lot of candy, though.
When we finally got back to campus (some jackass stole our taxi), we tried to scrounge out some people to play Balderdash. On the way over to Alyssa's room, we met four random people having a snowball fight, and joined in, which was fun, except that now I can't remember any of their names. Still. Snowball fights rule.
Arriving at Alyssa's, we were informed that Will (of HA fame) had invited us over to Morrissey. This, quite frankly, scared hell out of me. I mean, we'd talked everything out and no longer hated each other, but I still wasn't exactly ready to venture into what I still thought of as enemy territory. So I ran back to my dorm room to assure myself that I didn't smell funny, and we headed to Will's.
Balderdash was a lot of fun. Mary was right- it's an awesome game. And I'm not just saying that because I beat everyone by a long shot after actually knowing the definitions of some of the words (these words are supposed to be so obscure that NO ONE recognizes them- hence the name of the game). After that we played a few quick improv games and headed home. I didn't say or do anything stupid, thank goodness.
Yesterday was completely useless, except for visiting the Guatemalan shoplet at LaFun and spending a whole lot of money on stuff I probably shouldn't have bought, but at least I got a couple people's Christmas presents. Adam was too tired to hang out with me that night, which sent me into a sad little funk until Clare came by and we took a quick walk to Reckers, which was spoiled by seeing lots of people I recognized coming back from an SYR. I wish someone would invite me to one. I mean, I love Tedd and he's the best safety date in the whole world, but...whatever, I'm whining again.
Today is HA rehearsal and then I am GOING to obtain superglue, darn it. You'll all see why eventually.
