Well, the Mac is finally back. It seems to be all in working order thus far. Restoring all my stuff should be........ fun. My only complaint is that there was quite a bit more cosmetic damage when I got it back than when I sent it in. The top is really scratched up now, but it doesn't really matter. Just brings down the resale value and since I don't plan on reselling it it should be an issue.

Now, as for that stupid heatsink I was talking about. The processor they decided to use runs pretty hot. It's one of new LGA775 Pentium 4s. Unfortunately, the stock cooling solution seems to suck pretty bad. Even the ones that are working well run at close to, if not slightly above 60C. Mine was spiking around 67...and was still going up. I wasn't willing to see how high it'd go. Instead I decided to order a replacement. Enter the Zalman CNPS-7700Cu. One of the very few LGA775 coolers I could find on the market. There were a few others but the only other ones I could find looked really neat but most didn't do even as well as the stock cooler. *sigh* This one, however, was reviewed to do pretty well, actually quite a bit better than the stock one did. 2+ lbs of copper, with an inset fan. A quiet inset fan. Quite a bit quieter than the stock one. So we'll see how this works out. Cost me $45 so it'd better do okay. It shipped yesterday so it should be here by thursday so I can install it for class. $700 I'll have spent on this stupid class.... *sigh*.... oh well. Such is life.
