FORM BEFORE FUNCTION.
Contrary to popular belief, lifting the heaviest, hardest weight is not necessarily the best way to pack on muscle at the gym. Remember, you will get little to no muscle gains whatsoever if you have horrible form is lifting; instead you may actually end up hurting yourself in the long run, or creating bad muscle memory (bad habits) when lifting. So remember, if you're just starting an exercise or just doing a new exercise that you normally dont do in your routine start out with something light (Not too light. How light? Just heavy enough for you to do 10 reps). Concentrate on getting your form down and once you've gone from there, go ahead and get heavy.
But I dont want to pack on muscle! That's fine. If youre just looking to get toned, pick a lighter weight and perform more reps. If you want more muscle and more mass pick up a heavier weight and perform less reps. This, of course, after you have your proper form down.
