Karrin walked down the beach wearing black slacks and a button down shirt. She had on a little bit of make-up and jewelry, but the make-up did little to hide the circles under her eyes from lack of sleep. Everything was piling up in Chicago and spiraling out of control, and this was the biggest indication of it. On some level, she was surprised they hadn't lost anyone like this yet. People disappeared, but there were no bodies so Karrin could only hope they were sent back home like everyone else seemed to believe.

Her eyes fell on the pyre. It reminded her of all the deaths that had come before this, of people very important to her. Karrin's gaze moved to Jennifer because she knew, somewhat, how she felt. Karrin walked over to her and put a hand on her shoulder.

Jennifer turned her head slightly, a smile almost touching her lips as she saw whose hand was on her shoulder.

"Karrin. Thank you for coming."

Her eyes were surprisingly dry as she turned back towards the pyre. "Did you have any last respects you wished to pay?"

She held out a rose to the blonde woman. "Here. For a small prayer or just a word to him if you'd like."

She merely nodded. She'd come more for Jennifer's sake than anything. Karrin hadn't known Neal but she did know that he was important to Jennifer. She would be there to support Jennifer, even if she didn't think she needed it right now ( ... )

Jennifer was there behind her, and squeezed her arm gently. "Thank you. It was very kind of you to take the time."

"Don't mention it," Karrin replied. She felt cold and standing on the beach probably wasn't helping that. However, she knew that wasn't the only reason she felt this way.

Jennifer nodded, surprisingly numb against the cold. But she was numb against everything right now. Instead, she just squeezed Karrin's arm again and drifted away. It would be time to light the pyre soon.
